  1. DRAGON DICTATE FOR MAC Picture of DRAGON DICTATE FOR MAC

    Dragon Dictate for Mac is a voice input and voice output program designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injury or upper extremity, vision, or learning disabilities. This voice recognition software allows hand-free operation of Apple Macintosh personal computers. The system allows users to speak at their normal pace and control applications by using voice commands to initiate any program or action within a program, to move the mouse cursor and click anywhere on the screen, or to place the cursor at a specfic place on the screen using the MouseGrid system. Dragon Dictate for Mac offers Recognition Training that enables the software to learn how each user speaks while using the software, and it has a Vocabulary Editor that allows the user to add specialized words, such as the names of people, places and other proper nouns to augment the software’s built-in vocabulary. This software facilitates writing, editing and proofreading of documents, and the placement of surrounding punctuation with a single voice command. A USB headset microphone is included with purchase (not upgrades), and the user can also use Bluetooth wireless microphones approved by Nuance. COMPATIBILITY: The system works with most applications that run on the Macintosh.     Dragon Dictation is a voice input, voice output and voice input text editor program designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injury or upper extremity, vision, or learning disabilities. This voice recognition application allows hands-free operation of an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. The program allows the user to speak and instantly see the text of what is said appear in the document, email message, or other input area. The user launches Dragon Dictation, taps the red recording button in the middle of the screen, and starts speaking the content to be typed. When the user finishes speaking the text to be added, he/she taps the “Done” button (for iPhone and iPod Touch) or anywhere on the screen (for iPad). Dragon Dictation also offers the option of typing the message by tapping the keyboard icon instead of speaking. The user can edit transcribed text by tapping the word he/she would like to correct and a drop-down list of alternative suggestions will appear for from which the user can choose. Dictated text is automatically saved in Dragon Dictation Notes; and the user can review, edit and delete existing notes as well as create new notes. Composed messages can be sent as emails or text messages, copied to the device’s clipboard or submitted as updates to Twitter and Facebook applications. Dragon Dictation also allows the user to switch from English to another language. Available languages include English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.     Dragon Go! is a voice input program and web browser designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injury or upper extremity, vision, or learning disabilities. The user launches Dragon Go!, taps the red "Record" button on the screen to start recording a search phrase, and taps the “Done” button when he or she is done speaking. The program also allows the user to type the search text in the search box instead of speaking. The search phrase will be displayed in the top text box with results displayed in the result pane. Search results come from various websites and content sources including: Spotify, Wolfram|Alpha, Yelp, AccuWeather, Ask.com, Dictionary.com, ESPN, Facebook, Fandango, Last.fm, LiveNation, Milo.com, OpenTable, Pandora internet radio, Rotten Tomatoes, Twitter, Wikipedia, Bing, and Yahoo!. The program’s Dragon Carousel feature also delivers complimentary results that enable the user to slide the carousel side-to-side to compare information across the most relevant websites for his or her Dragon Go! request. The user can share his or her Dragon Go! results via a pop-up toolbar featuring link share options across email, text messages, Facebook, Twitter, and Skype.   4. DRAGON NATURALLYSPEAKING

    Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a voice input and voice output program designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injury or upper extremity, vision, or learning disabilities. This voice recognition system enables hands-free operation of personal computers and permits users to speak at their normal pace. The program also permits hands-free mouse operation using MouseGrid technology. Users can create, move, edit, and format text by voice command in virtually all Windows applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, web browsers, and more. The program integrates with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and most other Windows applications, allowing spoken text to appear immediately in a document. Select-and-Say editing permits editing by voice. Corrections can be made by voice or by keyboard, and corrections can be made immediately or delayed to a later time. The program also offers dictation playback, enabling the user to hear what he or she has written before editing. Text-to-speech capability also enables users to have their own documents or other files such as e-mail read aloud. The program supports multiple users and each user "trains" the system as it is being used; the system learns accents, dialects, and individual pronunciations automatically. The program has a 230,000-word vocabulary, with a 30,000-word plus active vocabulary. The vocabulary includes spelling, pronunciation, punctuation, usage, and context recognition information. This program also allows new words, specialized terms, and names to be automatically added in a few steps. The Vocabulary Builder searches text files, locates words used by the user, and enters spelling, pronunciation, and context recognition information. A high-quality headset microphone is included.   6. ETI-ELOQUENCE

    ETI-Eloquence is a speech synthesizer program designed for use by product designers to provide speech output for individuals who are blind or have low vision or learning disabilities. This program supports speaking rate modifications with no loss in speech quality. It has a fast execution speed and low memory requirements. Memory size is independent of the number of voices used, so the software can be used to create a multi-voice speech application without additional memory resources. The program is available in 13 languages: US English, UK English, Castilian Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Canadian French, French, German, Italian, Finnish, Brazilian Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

  7. NUANCE TALKS

    Nuance TALKS is voice output software for cell phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants), designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The software runs on mobile phones from Nokia and other manufacturers that use the Symbian operating system, and provides speech output for cell phone settings, contact directories, caller ID, text messages, help files, the Nokia Web browser, and other functions. It also supports external braille input/output devices (not included) and many third-party applications, such as IM+ (Instant Messenger), the Wayfinder GPS application, and the SolvoEd dictionary.

  8. NUANCE ZOOMS Picture of NUANCE ZOOMS

    Nuance ZOOMS is a cell phone display magnifier program designed for use by individuals with low vision. This program magnifies the displays of Symbian Series 60 handsets. It can magnify the full screen area from 1.5 up to 4 times. In Distributed Views mode, the screen is divided into several areas to display various elements simultaneously, magnified to double their original size. As the user scrolls through a menu or list, the program magnifies each item along with some of the surrounding area. Key commands allow the user to magnify specific elements such as the window title, soft keys, or battery level indicator. When the magnifier is on an object that does not fit the screen in its entirety, after a brief delay the program begins to scroll automatically through the text so the user can view the complete contents. The display can be converted into black and white, grayscale, or color inverted. Auto-Zoom mode resizes text as defined by the user, independent of the text's original size. This magnifier program can operate with the Nuance TALKS screen reader, with shared key commands and magnification focus synchronized with reading of items on the screen.

  9. OMNIPAGE PRO 14

    OmniPage Pro 14 is a voice output optical character recognition program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The program converts scanned paper documents into text files in a variety of electronic formats, including Word, XML, HTML, Open e-Book, and PDF (Portable Document Format). Files can be read aloud, and words can be corrected by voice or by typing. The program also converts PDF documents into Microsoft Office documents that preserve formatting. Paper and electronic documents can be converted into audio files for playback or burning to CD. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Intel Pentium III processor or equivalent; Microsoft Windows 98 SE, 2000 with Service Pack 2 or higher, Me, XP, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or above, or Windows Server 2003 operating system; Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 or later; a minimum of 128 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM), 256 MB recommended; 135 MB of free hard disk space for application files and sample images, plus 40 to 45 MB working space during installation; 20 to 67 MB per RealSpeak speech module (343 MB in total for nine languages); 5 MB for Microsoft Installer (MSI) if not present; 800 x 600 pixel color monitor with 16-bit color or greater video card; CD-ROM drive for installation; compatible scanner with its own scanner driver software.

    RealSpeak Solo is a speech synthesizer program designed for use by product developers to provide voice output for individuals who are blind or have low vision or learning disabilities. This text-to-speech program is scalable from 8 to 20 megabytes (MB) for embedded applications and up to 100 MB for desktop applications. The program can be used by device makers, telematics suppliers, banks, kiosk developers, and electronic game creators. Custom voices are available. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible or Pocket PC computers or devices running Windows CE. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: For desktop applications, Windows 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, or XP operating system; Intel Pentium 266 megaHertz (MHz) or higher processor; 64 megabytes (MB) RAM; SoundBlaster 16-compatible audio device. For Pocket PC or WinCE devices, Pocket PC 2003 or Windows CE version 3.0 or later; Microsoft Embedded Visual C++ 3.0 or later; Arm compatible processor (Strong Arm, Xscale, S3C2410). The full speechbase versions are not included in WinCE. Average required disk space is 8 to 60 MB. Average required RAM is 4 to 8 MB.

  11. REALSPEAK WORD

    RealSpeak Word is a speech synthesizer and voice output dictionary program designed to provide voice output for electronic talking dictionaries. The dictionary developer can embed this text-to-speech program in a dictionary product to provide voice output via a coding-by-synthesis architecture that requires no recordings, and uses just 3 megabytes (MB) of read-only memory (ROM) to cover as many as 60,000 words. The manufacturer offers professional integration services to port this program to customer platforms. The program delivers crisp, clear sound and high intelligibility. The program comes with RealSpeak Word Studio, a PC tool that enables talking dictionary developers to add as many as 150,000 words with accurate pronunciations. The program runs on a 1 or 2 MIPS HOST processor when combined with the manufacturer's SSFT6040 chip, or as software only, requiring no more than 12 MIPS.

  12. TEXTBRIDGE PRO MILLENIUM

    TextBridge Pro Millennium is an optical character recognition (OCR) program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This OCR program turns scanned documents into Word files with a high degree of accuracy to reduce or eliminate the need for retyping. Files can be edited after scanning. Documents can also be converted automatically into Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) for posting on web sites. This Windows 2000 Certified Program works seamlessly with Microsoft Office 2000 and other Windows applications. The OCR engine can render documents with multiple columns and color photos, and AccuMorph technology improves accuracy on poor quality documents like faxes and photocopies.

Users can create macros that will run across multiple applications, and can control the speed at which their macros run. This software supports the use of select digital handheld recorders. Other features include IBM ViaVoice Documents, which provides Microsoft Word-based customized templates for letters, reports, faxes, and e-mails, and VoiceMarks, which can read the name of a customized navigation macro to the user as an audio confirmation that the macro is being run correctly. This product comes with a 300,000 word vocabulary that can be customized to add new words, addresses, acronyms, and other personal phrases and expressions.
