  1. BRAILLE BOOKMAKER Picture of BRAILLE BOOKMAKER

    The Braille BookMaker is a portable desk-top Braille printer that produces Braille characters on both sides of the page for individuals who are blind. Commands are issued from a calculator-style keypad, and confirmed by tones so that the operator can change settings without having to print out prompts and responses in Braille. A brief comma sequence places the unit in single-sided mode, where it can become a terminal using the optional external keyboard, or generate samples for easier proofreading by a sighted operator. The embosser's performance can reach a daily average rate of 5 hours of actual embossing figures to generate up to a quarter million pages over a full year. The unit is housed in an attache type carrying case. PAPER: This embosser has a rear panel impact control to allow the use of different tractor feed paper stock, ranging from 20-pound computer paper to 100-pound tag. CPS: This printer has a speed of 80 characters per second (cps). BUFFER SIZE: The standard multi-copy buffer size is 30K ($7,995), but can be expanded to 512K ($8,995), which will allow a connected computer to resume editing or calculating while the printer does the embossing by itself.     The Braille Express, models 100 and 150, is a Braille printer designed to print in book format with two pages on each sheet for individuals who are visually disabled. The printers offer interpoint Braille at a rate of 100 or 150 characters per second. They both print up to 44 characters per line macimum, combine text and graphics on a single sheet, save up to 16 full groups of settings, and emboss raised print characters for tactual or visual reading. A rear panel impact control selector allows users to adjust for different weights of paper from 20-pound computer paper to 100-pound tag. Both printers also provide single sided printing.     BraillePlace is a braille printer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This interpoint embosser has a print speed of 300 characters per second and is designed for use in braille publishing. It can print lines 45 characters wide using Library of Congress spacing, with 27 lines per page maximum. It connects to any computer through the parallel or serial ports, and has keypad controls with ET Speaks to vocalize controls and do other audio tasks. Braille can be printed in a variety of sizes, including Library of Congress standard Braille, Jumbo Braille, California Sign Braille, Petite Braille, and Petite Braille with interlining, as well as Moon Type for the United Kingdom.     The ET Braille Printer is a desktop interpoint printer designed for printing on both sides of the paper at higher speeds for individuals with visual disabilities. The ET is an improved version of the Juliet (see separate entry) with a 40 character line and a speed of 60 characters per second. It will accept paper weighing from 20 to 100 pounds and prints on either one or both sides of the paper. Other features include high resolution graphics and a multi-copy buffer, which will print a 30 page document over and over without tying up the computer. A rear panel impact control allows the user to select perfect Braille for different paper. ET can also add well-defined Braille to heavy plastics and some light metals to Braille on signs. The printer comes standard with continuous tractor feed. COMPATIBILITY: Fully compatible with popular braille translators for IBM, Apple, and Macintosh computers through its standard parallel and serial ports. OPTIONS: Single sheet feed is available.     The Juliet Pro 60 is a desktop braille printer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This printer has a 40-character-wide embossing line and 60-characters-per-second speed for double-sided embossing (40-characters per second for single-sided printing). It can use either continuous tractor-feed paper or single sheets, hand-fed one at a time. A variety of different paper sizes and weights can be used. ET Speaks comes up talking automatically on the Juliet Pro 60, echoing commands entered on the keypad and reading all the embosser's status messages out loud. ET Speaks is DoubleTalk-compatible, so it can also read the screen of a computer to which it is attached and play audio files. The user can listen to ET Speaks through speakers or headphones using its external jack. Other standard features include regular and high-resolution Braille graphics, six- or eight-dot Braille, and a choice of Braille sizes, spacing, and layout. Sixteen menus allow the user to customize the embosser just once for each task and call all the settings into action with a few keystrokes. Up to 99 copies of one document can be printed automatically. The sound level is 68 decibels, and may vary with ambient conditions.     The Marathon Brailler is a desk-top Braille printer designed to provide single-sided embossing for individuals who are blind. The user sets printing control parameters with a built-in keypad (no dip switches). Up to 16 different sets of parameters can be stored in the Marathon's permanent memory. Eight pre-programmed sets for popular microcomputer configurations are provided with the system. Control parameters can be verified via a 32-character visual display or in Braille. When used with Braille translation software (extra), the printer is capable of producing grade 2 Braille. This embosser also features a multi-copy function. The unit is housed in a portable attache type carrying case. PAPER: Uses tractor feed paper; widths from 1.5 to 13.5 inches, page lengths of 3 to 14 inches, and paper weights of 20 to 100 pound tag.     The Plate Embossing Device, model PED-30, is a Braille printer that embosses Interpoint Braille on zinc plates used for press Braille production. These templates are ideal whenever 50 or more copies of a book, document, etc. are required. This machine embosses 45 zinc plates per hour. This printer in particular is ideal for large signmakers who need Braille in the shortest form possible, but stamped through very thick materials. The industrial-strength signmaker is powered by compressed air. The message can be up to 30 characters long in the standard Library of Congress template and up to 24 characters long in the optional California ADA template.     The Romeo 25 is a braille printer designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision. The Romeo 25 is a rugged basic embosser suitable for student, personal, or home office use. It produces a 40-character line of Library of Congress Braille at 25 characters per second. Standard features on Romeo 25 include Dynamic Braille Scaling and a choice of resolution settings for graphics. Dynamic Braille Scaling allows the user to change Braille sizes, even within a document, from Library of Congress Braille to California sign Braille, Jumbo Braille, standard Braille with increased line spacing, or the smaller Braille often preferred in Japan. With Romeo 25's two graphics modes, it is possible to make Braille graphics at normal resolution for large shapes or at high resolution for finer detail. Standard features include ET Speaks, a fast and flexible speech system that comes up automatically and echoes commands as they are entered on the printer's keypad. The unit uses continuous tractor feed paper, and has single sheet tractors that allow the user to hand-feed non-tractor paper one sheet at a time and it can handle paper weights ranging from standard computer paper through heavy index-type card stock.     TranSend LT is a dual braille / print printing system designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision. The system can produce braille together with ink text on alternating lines on the same page. Ink text can be either large or small print. The system consists of a control unit, a dot matrix printer, and a braille printer. TranSend uses text files that can be created by most popular word processing programs. The system has a built-in speech synthesizer which speaks all prompts as they appear on the control unit's screen. POWER: Uses either direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC).     The Gemini Braille Printer, also called the Gemini Print and Braille Embosser, is a braille printer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This braille printer can print braille and ink print simultaneously on the same page. Ink characters can be printed in a standard size or two or four times larger, and the user can also adjust the shading. Ink characters can be positioned either above or below the braille. Ink characters that can be printed include the major European alphabets, the Korean Hangul alphabet, and Chinese and Japanese characters. Braille can be printed in six-dot and eight-dot cells. Braille graphics can also be embossed on this printer. The noise level has been reduced by using a printing method that pushes the braille embossing pins into the paper instead of striking the paper. This method also allows an entire line of braille to be printed at the same time. Printing speeds are 32 characters per second (cps) for braille and 90 cps for print. The printer uses continuous tractor feed paper in two sizes and can also be used to emboss stickers and labels. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 12.6 x 15.7 x 16.8 inches.
