FONATOR SYSTEM, FONATOR SPEECH TRAINER, & FONATOR AUDITORY SPEECH TRAINER
Vibrotactile amplification system. Used to assist deaf and deaf-blind students in learning how to speak to and to correct speech skills in children and adults with communicative disorders resulting from mental retardation, dysphasia, cerebral palsy or learning disabilities. User learns to imitate correct speech sound through detection of vibrations and comparison of user's own speech productions with those of the instructor. Teacher speaks into microphone, presenting the target skill; student listens and feels vibration patterns from vibrator; speaking into microphone, student attempts to imitate instructor's vibratory and auditory patterns. Fonator Speech Trainer consists of microphone, vibrator and amplifier with controls for the intensity of the vibrations and intensity of the high and low frequencies through the vibrator. Fonator Auditory Speech Trainer adds a headset. Amplifier has controls for intensity and frequency emphasis of vibrator, peak clipping and independent intensity control for right and left ears. Headset blocks out background noise and heightens student's attention; good for discrimination of subtle distinctions in speech. Both sets include carrying case.

IMINI IN-EAR HEARING INSTRUMENT
-------- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of a miniature auditory canal hearing device for individuals with hearing disabilities. Siemens has launched a new miniature auditory cancel hearing device (iMini) which is custom-made for each individual customer to fit perfectly within the cancel and is practically invisible from the outside. The custom fabrication process utilizes computer-assisted technology to determine how the individual components can be optimally arranged in the individual housing shell. Because the iMini is located deep within the hearing canal, it can make use of the ear's natural, acoustic amplification. BestSound technology makes sure the sound is pleasant and improves speech comprehension. A fine, invisible nylon thread is used to pull the hearing system out. Siemens is offering a variety of bright colors in the U.S. and white and dark-brown caps in Europe for the device. No matter what color choice the iMini still disappears equally well in the ear. MINI-FONATOR
Vibrotactile amplification system. Single channel vibrator worn on wrist attaches by cord to pocket size amplification unit. Amplifier contains sockets for microphone or vibrator, a compartment for dry cells or rechargeable batteries and adjustment controls. Also has signal input for use with FM auditory trainer or pre-recorded material, and a signal output which can be connected to a hearing aid. When the FM receiver is connected to the device, (as in a classroom) the only vibrations sensed are those generated by speaker wearing FM transmitter. Background noise and distance factors are eliminated. Has signal output for hearing aid for those with residual hearing. When the voiceless sound channel is on, high frequency sounds are transposed to low frequency sounds. Enables user to perceive high frequency sounds. Provides tactile feedback from user's own vocalizations, assists in development of normal pattern of speech and prevents existing vocalizations and speech from diminishing due to lack of auditory feedback.

NOAH SYSTEM
The NOAH System is a case management program designed for use by audiologists and other hearing care professionals. Developed by a consortium of over 80 hearing care companies worldwide, this program provides a unified system for performing client-related tasks. When a professional measures a client’s hearing loss, whether with audiograms, speech tests, or loudness scaling, results are passed automatically to the common database, for use by any of several fitting systems from other suppliers. This allows the professional to try out alternative fitting systems from different suppliers when selecting and tuning a hearing instrument. The system can also be used to record journal notes regarding the client session. All information is automatically saved in the client’s record. This framework allows hearing instrument fitting, audiological measurement, and office management systems to share a common database. The program comes with modules for performing basic fitting and measurement functions. Additional fitting and measurement modules are available separately from licensed member companies. These modules allow the program to work with measurement equipment from more than 10 major suppliers and to fit hearing instruments from more than 30 different suppliers. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers or network servers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows Vista, XP Professional (Service Pack 2), 2000 (Service Pack 4), 2008 Server, 2003 Server (Service Pack 1), or 2000 Server operating system (32-bit versions only); Pentium III 1 gigaHertz (GHz) processor; 512 megabytes (MB) RAM; 5 gigabytes (GB) of free hard drive space with 1 additional GB of free space for each installed module; screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels; CD drive; USB port for Bluetooth adapter; Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later; and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
