  1. AAC VOCABULARY MANAGER

RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. -- AAC Vocabulary Manager is a vocabulary enhancement program designed to plan, monitor and manage vocabulary for persons using alternate access computer (AAC) systems. The system is designed to build a vocabulary with word lists based on academic research, including words from one or more topical lists. It can also maintain individual or group progress as well as create evaluation reports. COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh with System 6 or higher. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 1 megabyte of RAM in the hard drive and a HyperCard 2.1 and higher.

  2. ACCESS TO MATH

RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. -- Access to Math is a math tutorial program designed to allow students to do math problems when holding a pencil is not easy or possible. The Student Pack consists of a Teacher Kit and a Student Pack. This program helps with the traditional duties of marking down, erasing, and figuring. The pack includes 5 additional Student Workbook disks for classrobms or learning labs. Features include simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems; shows numbers borrowed and carried just as if written with a pencil; displays problems in large fonts; and displays the student's work on the monitor and on printed worksheets for correcting. The Teacher Kit is a lesson planning tool that allows teachers to enter problems on a Teacher Edition disk and then load assignments onto a Student Workbook disk for home or school work. Each disk holds up to 20 worksheets. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIe, Apple IIc/c+, and Apple IIGS computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 5.25-inch disk drive, 128K memory.   3. ADAPTIVE FIRMWARE CARD (MODEL G12)

The special input methods possible with the Adaptive Firmware Card include single switch, and dual switch (scanning and Morse Code), expanded keyboard capabilities, and keyboard assisting features for individuals using a headpointing device or a single finger. The Adaptive Firmware Card also offers game paddle emulation and a slowdown mode, allowing the user to operate some paddle-based programs with one or two switches. The Adaptive Firmware Card does not interfere with the use of the computer keyboard when installed. Special feature software is included. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIe computers.

  4. ADAPTIVE FIRMWARE CARD (MODEL G32E)

(Verified 10/2000) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Adaptive Firmware Card (AFC), model G32e, is a peripheral card designed to enable various alternative input devices to be plugged into the Apple IIe or Apple IIGS computers so that standard software can be run by people with various disabilities. With the AFC, input speed, speech feedback, key size, and other options can be matched to the user's skills. Other features include slowdown to make the software run at a slower speed so keystrokes are more accurate and choices are presented at a more manageable speed; letter size to give the user better visibility with scanning in full-screen graphics programs; and adjustable input rates and switch hold down time to tailor keyboards to heavy-handed or light typists. INPUT METHODS: Alternate input methods supported by the card are alternate keyboards, scanning, assisted keyboards, Morse code, ASCII input, and multiple switch boxes. TALKING WORD BOARD: The AFC includes the Talking Word Board software, a communication program that repeats paragraphs, sentences, words, or letters as the user types them. It has fully adjustable features and works with all input methods. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIe (128K enhanced) or Apple IIGS computers.   5. AFC ACCESS: TOUCHWINDOW

This hardware and software solution permits use of the TouchWindow as an alternative input device with the Adaptive Firmware Card (AFC); this combination means all Apple II series software can be accessed with the TouchWindow. It also allows the TouchWindow to be used as a mouse emulation device. Standard setups are provided in both 3.5 and 5.25 inch formats. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIe and Apple IIGS computers equipped with the Adaptive Firmware Card model G32 or G32e and the Apple II TouchWindow.

  6. ALP WRITER (MODEL S16)

The first group of letters is TAOWH. Based on probability, these are the letters most likely to begin a word. User selects one of these letters or to receive another groups of letters. After a letter is chosen the next group presented is based on that selection. Groups are continuously presented until each word is completed. Two switches or a dual switch is required, one switch to advance the cursor, the other to select a command or letter. Program also has editing features of insert, delete, and overwrite. Text can be saved on a disk end edited at a later time. Optional equipment available to control home appliances, lights and control systems. System requirements: apple II, II+ or IIe; 48k memory, one disk drive; two switches; C/O switch interface or adaptive firmware card; printer.

  7. APPLE SWITCH INTERFACE (MODELS C10 & C11)

There are two models are available. The C10 connects to the internal Game I/O port on Apple II+, IIe, and IIGS computers. The C11 connects to the 9-pin joystick port on the back of the computer.   14. CHIME ALARM

As the chime sounds, a light provides visual feedback. Both the tone and light go on when the switch is pressed and held. Chiming stops when the switch is released. When paired with the Switch Latch/Timer (see separate entry), chiming can be started with a switch press and continued for a set period of time or until a second switch press is received. The charm alarm accepts any switch with a standard 1/8-inch mini plug. POWER: 9-volt battery. WEIGHT: 1 pound.

Objects and/or pictures may be placed in the four 5" x 7" snap-on vinyl bags. Bags may be attached to the top or bottom of the Choice Board so that the device may be used either on a table or on the floor. Choices are made from the Choice Board via direct selection. Also included with the Choice Board is a manual providing therapy suggestions. An optional communication board display is also available. This display is useful in completing the transition from pointing to objects to making selections from a communication board. Extra vinyl bags (sets of four) are also available.   17. CO:WRITER & CO:WRITER 2.0

RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Co:Writer is a word prediction software program that uses artificial intelligence to predict words based on subject-verb agreement, grammar rules, word relationships, proper names, frequencey, redundancy, frequency, and user preference for individuals who struggle with writing due to physical limitation, language delay, or learning disability. As a person types, this program offers the choice of up to ten words at once as selections for the next word to be typed. To use one of the "predicted" choices, the user simply selects the desired word and that word is automatically inserted into the user's text with capitalization or spacing as appropriate. This prediction program uses a built-in dictionary and a personalized vocabulary created by the user's word choices. Features of the program include the ability to change the font size to increase visibility of the predicted word list; use of the speech option to hear word choices before or after they are selected for the sentence; placement of the Co:Writer window anywhere on the screen; choice of the two, ten, or forty thousand word dictionaries for word predictions (the bigger the dictionary, the more sophisticated the word choices); addition of words that have personal significance to the user; the ability to save personal references so the program will use them every time. Co:Writer 2.0 is the 1994 update version of this software. This upgrade features the X:PND feature with which the user can add several phrases with the same abbreviation. Expansions are intelligently predicted along with single words. Either can be chosen for speech output. Version 2.0 also has MacinTalk II. COMPATIBILITY: Versions are available for use on Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Macintosh version requires an SE or better, System 7 or higher, and 9 megabytes (MB) RAM. There are eight general category cards such as door, spoon, chair, paper, brush, plate, cup, coat. Within each category are five different contexts in which the cards can be placed, such as table, living room, bathroom, desk and kitchen. Individual cards measure 2 3/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches and the context cards measure 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches. Heavy duty cards are laminated in plastic.

  20. CORE PICTURE VOCABULARY & CORE PICTURE VOCABULARY DOUBLE-SIDED

  21. DIAL SCAN (MODEL 607)

The communicator has a clear dial face to promote interactive communication. The face has adjustable angles for positioning, and is attached to a control box that sets the speed and direction of the scan. The control box will accept one or two switches (not included), each with standard 1/8-inch mini plugs. One switch can be used to rotate the pointer on the face clockwise, and the other to move the dial counterclockwise. Continuous pressure is required to keep the dial moving; releasing the switch will stop the pointer at the desired location. 2 clear and 3 blank paper overlays are provided; custom overlays with pictures and/or words can be created. Photos or symbols may also be used to suit the user's needs. The Dial Scan can be used with a Switch/Latch Timer (see separate entry) to modify the switches to operate in either a Time or Latch mode. All stories are illustrated and have speech, sound, or animation. Stories include "The Goat," "Ziggy in New York," "Inigo Gets Out," and seven different "Mouse Tales" by Arnold Loebl. The game set consists of nine games designed to teach cognitive, early academic and switch operation skills. Reading skills are not required to operate the games; verbal directions and auditory feedback are given. While playing the games, the visual-motor skills of press-release, waiting to take a turn, and hitting the switch within a certain time limit are practiced. Games incorporate a moving cursor to provide experience with scanning in vertical, horizontal, and row/column format. GAMES: Zig Zag, Race, Bully, Tic-Tac-Toe, Beetle Star Galactica, Phaser Scan, Maze, Scancentration, and Filler Thriller. The most complex game is Scancentration, a scanning version of Concentration. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple II+, IIe, IIc/c+, and IIGS computers. Games included on the program include "Horse Race", "Slap Jack", "Ice Breaker", "Pie in the Eye", " Mountain Climbers", and "Match and Win".   31. JOIN THE CIRCUS

This program can also be used for visual motor training or to stimulate language interaction. Four levels of play are included. The first level allows the user to hit the switch and watch a circus act from start to finish. The second level requires two switch activations: one to start the act and one to see the finale. The third level requires the student to touch the switch after each on-screen action. The fourth level allows play by two users taking turns. They can also combine expressions to see what it looks like to laugh and cry at the same time. Some facial expressions include animation and sound. All letters, words and sentences are presented in meaningful context. Students learn that letters make up words, words make up sentences and that words are read from left to right. Each activity reinforces the concept that print carries meaning, and the Teacher's Guide provides further reinforcement with how-to instructions, lesson ideas and reproducible activity sheets. Every word on the screen is spoken aloud and supported with lively, imaginative graphics and animation. Bailey's Book House has built in scanning for single switch users. The CD-ROM version for Macintosh/Windows has two additonal activities that focus on teaching students common adjectives and read, sound out and spell three-letter words. This keyboard features brightly colored, 1-inch square keys with enlarged black labels. The keys are color coded to coincide with the letters; all the vowels in yellow, "R" in red, and "G" in green, etc. This accelerates recognition of letters and the child's progress in learining to read. The arrow keys are also enlarged and the four keys are configured in a diamond shape which, in addition to the bold black arrows on them, contributes to indicating the direction the cursor will move. The individual click-style keys are laid out in alphabetical order and feature UV coated keycap printing. Also included on the keyboard are control keys, caps lock, tab, and delete. Instant plug-and-play technology means there is no setting up to do and the keyboard does not require special software. For further enhnacement, BIG KEYS and the standard keyboard can be plugged in simultaneously, enabling easy adult guidance as the child plays and learns. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and IBM- compatible PC/XT, PC/AT 286, 386, or 486 and Pentium computers and Macintosh. The program features a cut and paste system that allows the user to select and paste communication symbols on any software program that accepts symbols. The symbols may be reduced or enlarged to any size. Symbols up to 4 inches in size may be used in conjunction with a compatible desktop publishing program to create worksheets, picture instruction sheets, journals, posters, and bulletin boards. Hard copies of the displays may be printed and saved to disk (see your computer software retailer for compatibility information). Additional features include a language translator, which allows the user to find and display symbols without necessarily knowing the language which the symbol is being translated into. Languages currently included are English, Spanish, French (Canadian), Portuguese, Danish, Swedish, German, Dutch, Norwegian and Italian. A program manual and assorted pre-made blank grids and a drawing program are included with the software. COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh and IBM Windows. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Macintosh computers, minimum 2 megabytes RAM and a hard disk drive required.

  4. ECHO LC

A speech synthesizer can make programs user friendly by providing spoken instructions and can motivate children to work harder with verbal reinforcement. The Echo LC easily plugs into the modem port. It comes with a speaker with volume control, headphone jack, text-to-speech software, demonstration and utility programs, and a tutorial manual. COMPATIBILITY: Apple IIc, Apple IIc+, and Macintosh (with Apple IIe emulation card).

  5. HEADMOUSE

RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The HeadMouse is an optical pointer designed to provide full mouse control of computers for people without use of their hands, but who have good head control. The HeadMouse headset uses the user's head movements to exactly imitate the movements of a desktop mouse. An ultrasound signal, transmitted from a small box on top of the computer monitor, is detected by three sensors located on the user headset. The sensors measure the relative strength of the ultrasound signal and determine the physical tilt of the user's head. This information is converted into the same electrical signals generated by the standard desktop mouse. Selections are made by positioning the mouse pointer and dwelling for a selectable period. Dragger (see entry) software provides efficient dwell-based access to the common functions of a two-button mouse. A switch (not included) can also be used to operate the primary mouse buttons. Standard HeadMouse models plug directly into the computer mouse port, so no special software is necessary. A remote version eliminates the need for a connection between the headset and the computer. POWER: 120 volts alternating current (AC). COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. OPTIONS: Bundle packages for IBM compatibles and Macintosh computers are available. Students simply choose a picture from the bottom of the screen, which will transport McGee to a different place. Animated graphics, digitized speech and authentic sound effects encourage students and build confidence. Each program contains 36 different activities and are available on diskette as a set or individually. All programs are designed to TouchWindow accessible (sees separate entry). Symbols are included for standard fast food chains and standard food orders (burgers, fries, salads, coffee, burritos, etc). Money and receipt stickers are included as well. The Fast Food set contains 120 stickers, including 5 blanks, that come in sheets of 30. DIMENSIONS: Each sticker is 1.5 inches square; sheets are 8.5 x 11 inches.

  8. POWERLINK 2

The device has three modes of control: Direct, which keeps appliances turned on while the switch is activated; Timed, which keeps devices turned on for 1 second to 60 minutes each time the switch is activated; and Latch, which provides one-touch on and one-touch off control of appliances.

  9. SPEAKEASY COMMUNICATION AID Picture of SPEAKEASY COMMUNICATION AID

(Verified 3/2004) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. ---The SpeakEasy Communication Aid is a direct selection communicator designed for use by nonvocal individuals and those with speech disabilities. The unit's digital sound chip can store and play back up to 12 recorded messages. The messages are retrieved by pressing the corresponding symbol on the built-in twelve-key membrane keyboard. Symbols may be changed in accordance with message changes. Stored messages may also be retrieved through single switch input; twelve switch input jacks correspond with the stored messages and the membrane keys. A message stop feature, when activated, causes a second activation of the key or switch to stop the message being played. The unit can be connected to toys or appliances to allow the user to experience voice output paired with a reinforcer. Other features include an on/off switch to prevent accidental activations, an easy-to-open standard nine-volt battery drawer, and a detachable shoulder strap. Two cables are supplied with the splash-resistant device. POWER: Uses either a 9-volt battery (not included) or an alternating current (AC) adapter (included). OPTIONS: A carrying case and a keyguard are available. DIMENSIONS: 7.5 x 5.5 x 1.75 inches. WEIGHT: One pound.

  10. VIDUR VIKING

This animated computer game on CD-ROM, in which the user must help Vidur, features a hunt for a stolen treasure and an obstacle-ridden escape back to Vidur's Viking ship. COMPATIBILTY: Macintosh LC or higher. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: At least 2.5 megabytes of RAM with System 7; a CD-ROM drive with 300 speed, and a 256 bit color monitor. Other access is available through the Macintosh Switch Interface and TouchWindow, Ke:nx, and Ke:nx On:board (see separate emtries).

  11. VOICEMATE 4 (MODEL 2701)

(Verified 2/2005) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Voicemate 4, model 2701, is a direct selection communication device designed to provide digitized speech for recording messages for individuals with communication disabilities who need a simple device with a limited number of messages or who are "on-the-go" and need portability. It has four buttons for direct selection that can be operated via finger, mouth stick or head pointer. Four phrases up to four seconds each may be recorded, and then recalled by using a keypad on top of the unit. The device comes with blank overlays so that the user can create customized symbols for each message. The volume is adjustable. POWER: 4 "AAA" batteries. DIMENSIONS: 3 x 2.5 x 1.4 inches. WEIGHT: 8 ounces.
