Braille-Talk allows standard text to be translated into Braille for embossing. No prior knowledge of text-to-Braille translation is necessary to operate Braille-Talk. Information displayed on the screen is simultaneously spoken as each key is typed. Speech output may be momentarily silenced or turned off entirely at any time. Braille-Talk supports a variety of Braille printers as well as most commercially available speech synthesizers. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIc, Apple IIe, Apple IIGS, IBM PC or PS/2 computers.

  2. CALC-TALK

This program changes the standard Apple keyboard into a 24 function calculator with ten memories. In addition to voice output, Calc-Talk displays characters that are nearly an inch high for persons with low vision. Scientific functions included are trigonometric, logarithms, exponents, and roots. All entries, functions and answers are spoken. Calc-Talk supports most commercially available voice synthesizers. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIc, Apple IIe, and Apple IIGS computers.

  3. CALCWORTHY

    --- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 12/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Calcworthy is a voice output calculator program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This program supports voice output from all major screen reader programs (not included). The voice output option remains hidden until activated. This calculator program can be run at any time, even when other programs are running. The program appears instantly, does its job and then disappears into the background until needed again. An export feature allows the user to place a total, subtotal, or a number in memory directly into an application without having to retype it. The calculator has ten different memories and various memory functions that allow the user to save and recall numbers. A Ticker-Tape function allows the user to see the previous 50 entries, and those entries can be copied to the current display for further calculation. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM PC, XT, AT and true IBM compatibles. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 128K random access memory (RAM), one 5.25 or 3.5 inch floppy disk drive, video screen, and screen reader program (if speech is desired).

  4. DECTALK ACCESS 32

Records can contain 250 fields, with 3K of information, and can be sorted any time. Other features include on-screen arithmetic computations, auto modem dialing, date and time fields display, and printing of mailing labels, custom letters, and lists. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIc, Apple IIe, and Apple IIGS computers; the program is compatible with most printers.   6. GW SENSE NAVIGATION

(Verified 04/2012) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. ---GW Sense Navigation, also called Sense Nav, is a voice output mobility program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This program runs on the Voice Sense personal digital assistant (see separate entry) and uses map data together with a global positioning system (GPS) receiver to provide information on points of interest such as restaurants, hotels, and hospitals. The user can add custom entries such as the user's home, place of work, or friend's home. The program can create vehicle or pedestrian routes and save them for future use or for sharing. The program comes with an authorization key to enable it to operate on the Voice Sense; a preloaded eight-gigabyte CF card with maps for either the US or Canada; a Bluetooth GPS receiver; a GPS receiver carrying case; a CD with documentation and tutorials; and online access to downloadable map and point-of-interest data. POWER: Uses a rechargeable battery and comes with a USB and alternating current (AC) power charger.

  7. NOTEWORTHY

(Verified 12/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Noteworthy is a voice output word processor program designed for jotting down notes on the computer while using another application for individuals who are blind or have low vision. It has a "pop-up" design that allows you to activate it anytime you are using your PC - even while other programs are running. You can take phone messages, compose memos or letters, or create and edit batch files without the need to use Braille or a tape recorder. The "pop-up" feature saves time by eliminating the need to exit a program and load a separate editor just to jot down a note. All of the standard cursor and editing keys offered by the PC's keyboard are used by Noteworthy and file commands are mnemonic so they are easy to remember. Noteworthy has many useful text editing features with cursor navigation commands that let you move through and read text sentence by sentence and paragraph by paragraph rather than line by line. This program does not have its own speech features, but rather capitilizes on speech features that you already have in your screen reader. COMPATIBILITY: IBM PC, XT, AT and true IBM compatibles. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Requires 128K RAM, one 5.25 or one 3.5 inche floppy disk drive, video screen. If speech is desired, it works with Vocal Eyes and all other major screen reading programs.

  8. SOUNDING BOARD

Features include fast forward, rewind, hyperscan, and format and capitalization cues. The Sounding Board has ten levels of pitch, volume, and speech rate, and 26 levels of tone. The system also includes interactive "hot keys" for entering commands. An external speaker with headphone jack and volume control is included.   9. SPEAK OUT

The external voice synthesizer has all the features of the Sounding Board with both serial and arallel interfaces allowing for compatibility with many types of computers including PCs and Apples. It is compact and lightweight and is great for someone who is on the go. The included smart charger can fully charge the NiCad batteries in ledd than two hours and automattically shut down once fully charged. Default settings are made using a built-in voice menu system. It also comes with a clock/calendar with alarm capabilities. OPTIONS: Cables for non-PC computers are also available.

  10. TERM-TALK

Term-Talk can be used to communicate with other computers, electronic bulletin boards, on-line databases, and mainframe computers with VT-100 terminal emulation. The program supports XMODEM, YMODEM, KERMIT, and ASCII file transfers. A dialing directory with automatic log-on macros, a built-in on-line editor, and auto answer and auto dial are also included.   11. VOCAL-EYES

(Verified 05/2006) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Vocal-Eyes is a voice output program package that processes screen and keyboard output from standard software programs, such as word processors, into speech for individuals who are blind or have low vision. It has autoloading capabilities where simply running a program will cause Vosal-Eyes to automatically load a new voice environment. The program offers 72 hot keys, 46 cursoring keys, 26 hyperactive windows, 20 standard windows, 30 extended windows and much more. It can also scan for boxes and lightbars and read them. There is a highlighting option for people with learning disabilities and it is compatible with most large print programs. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM PC or PS/2 computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: A speech synthesizer is required, but not part of the package. Contact manufacturer for information on compatibility with speech synthesis hardware. OPTIONS: Vocal-Eyes (Dragon) is a special version for use with voice recognition devices - DragonDictate and IBM VoiceType. The combination allows both voice input and voice output.

  12. VOICECARD

Users will learn to format disks; read the contents of disks and hard drives; copy, rename and delete files; and use the editor to look at important files. Special attention is given to explaining how the hard drive is organized, what directories are and how to use them. The RB-40 comes ready to use with an IBM-PC comptible computer and standard Braille paper. A built in memory system makes it easy to customize and save settings for nearly any format desired.
