  1. KID KEYS

    Kid Keys is a voice output program designed to introduce and enhance keyboarding and reading skills for students with developmental and physical disabilities. Three activities combine voice, music, graphics, animation and sound to help students progress from learning key positions to typing smoothly and accurately. Students develop letter and word recognition, learn letters and words through the use of speech technology, and develop sequencing skills while taking the first steps in computer literacy. Teacher support materials provide 11 cross-curricular lessons with activities to be completed before, while, and after using the computer.   2. KID PIX 2 / KID PIX STUDIO

    Kid Pix 2 and Kid Pix Studio are drawing programs designed to create multimedia presentationa and animated artwork for individuals with a cognitive or physical disability. Students can use the TouchWindow (see separate entry) to access this program which includes a talking alphabet, colorful rubber stamps that can be customized and resized, and a palette of Wacky Brushes. Slide Shows are easy to create, so children of all ages and levels can create multimedia reports, animations with sound effects, or stand alone slide shows. Kid Pix Studio is the CD-ROM version and offers additional animation projects, tools, video clips, and sound effects. Both include a Teacher's Guide with dozens of additional activities and suggestions for integrating the program into the curriculum. COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh and IBM, DOS and Windows.   3. LET'S START LEARNING!

    Let's Start Learning! is an academic tutorial program designed to provide the essentials for learning for individuals with a learning disability. This program is multisubject with five different ctivities; multisensory, encouraging children's senses both on and off the computer; and multilevel with four level changes. It helps children to build preschool skills with letters, numbers, shapes, and patterns through interactive play. The audio combined with graphics and animation encourages children to dance and sing, jump and stretch to promote large motor skills activities. A song button brings to life an original song for each of the five activities and they can also be played on a regular CD player. Activities include the Counting Club, which introduces counting, number recognition, and simple math; ABC Dinner which teaches matching letters, recognizing letters and sounds, and identifying first letter sounds; Shape Shack which introduces fundamentals to reading, science and thinking through sorting and classification; and Pattern Parade which encourages children to identify and create patterns based on color, size and sound. There are four challenging levels - discover, build, apply and play - for each activity with each level focussing on developing key concepts. COMPATIBILITY: IBM compatible or Macintosh with a double speed CD-ROM drive.   4. MATH WORKSHOP

    Math Workshop is a math tutorial program designed to devleop and practive critical math skills for children with a developmental or physical disability. By combining games, music and animated characters, children have fun as they develop problem solving, strategic thinking and computation skills. Each activity has multiple levels of difficulty designed to build both confidence and motivation. There are seven activities including Bowling for Numbers, Puzzle Patterns, Sticklers and Rhythm Generator. In addition to basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, students practice estimation and equivalencies; pattern recognition and spatial relationships; line and shape recognition; scale and symmetry; and creation and manipulation of fractions in relation to music. This program can be used with the TouchWindow (see separate entry) to make them touch-active for students with physical disabilities. COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh and IBM.   5. MATHOSAURUS

    Mathosaurus is a math tutorial program designed to build early math concepts and computation skills. The four disk series includes 16 activities where animated dinosaurs entertain children as they learn. Students match sets to corresponding number symbols 1 to 10, create matching sets and compare sets to determine which is more and which is less. They learn the meaning of numbers to 20, ordinal numbers first through tenth and the concepts of greater than and less than. They practice counting to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's, and learn to recognize place value in 3-digit numbers. The final disk contains three activities which provide practice in addition and subtraction. Teachers can control the difficulty of problems and student results can be summarized and printed.   6. OPERATION NEPTUNE

    Operation Neptune is a math tutorial prgram designed to build confidence in math and problem solving skills for children who are mentally challenged. It strengthens problem solving and thinking skills necessary for pre-alegebra foundation by introducing algebraic equations and challenging players to read and interpret data from charts, graphs, maps and tables and perform calculations involving measurement concepts such as area, distance and volume. Features include Math Practice allowing players to work on specific math problems of their choice; dynamic graphics to create a colorful and realistic deep sea environment; and digitized music and special sound effects. Players can customize the math problems to meet their needs for whole numbers, decimals, fractions, ratios and percentages. Strategy hints are provided and reinforced with step-by-step solutions if needed. COMPATIBILITY: IBM and compatibles or Macintosh.     The Print Shop Deluxe is a drawing and graphics program that allows creation of posters, calendars, banners, newsletters, greeting cards, etc. for individuals with a physical disability. The program is touch screen accessible and is designed to work with TouchWindow (see separate entry). There are over 300 graphics and 30 fully scalable typefaces that print in monochrome or color. The program includes type styles, border designs, background patterns, and a library of pictures and symbols. COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh, Apple, and DOS. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: For Macintosh: System 7.0 or higher; 4 MB RAM; hard disk; TouchWindow is optional.   8. READ, WRITE & TYPE

    Read, Write & Type is a software tutorial program designed to teach reading and writing for children who have a learning disability. Designed for children aged 6-8 years, it builds early phonics and reading skill while children learn to write and type on the computer. It does this by teaching children to type by linking speech sounds with specific finger motions. The program introduces 40 speech sounds of the English language in a sequence carefully designed to allow children to quickly progress from typing single letters to creating whole words, phrases and stories. The program provides over 200 sequenced game activities that improve phonics, typing, reading, writing and spelling skills. COMPATIBILITY: IBM compatible or Macintosh.     Reader Rabbit 1 & 2 are academic tutorial programs designed to strengthen reading, spelling, word recognition and vocabulary skills for children with a developmental disability. Reader Rabbit 1 is an early reading program featuring challenging, game-like activities with an acrobratic rabbit, animated graphics and sound effects. There are four imaginative, sequenced games with activities that help beginners improve letter and word recognition, memory skills and vocabulary. Reader Rabbit 2 is a follow up to the first and develops word recognition, spelling and vocabulary skills. As Reader Rabbit and his friends take a train ride through Wordville's crystal word mine, vowel pond, match patch and wacky barnyard dance, children learn vowel sounds, word building, word concepts and dictionary skilld. Each of the activities is sequenced with multiple levels for challenging, long-lasting play. Activities for both programs may be customized to suit each individual's needs.   11. READER RABBIT'S READING DEVELOPMENT LIBRARY

    Reader Rabbit's Reading Development Library is an electronic book designed to build reading, writing and typing skills for children with a learning disability. There are two levels each offering two classic tales from three different characters' points of view. So, basically each level offers six unique stories. Each reading level in the series is targeted to a specific level of reading development and is geared towards children ages 5-7. They are graduated in difficulty and build upon the others. Each storybook includes three skill building activities that develop comprehension, thinking, vocabulary, and sequencing ability. Express It allows the children to write letters to their favorite storybook characters by filling in the missing words, and then they receive a personal response. Story Match lets the children build their vocabulary and thinking skills by matching key words from the stories to colorful pictures. Story Order is where the children develop recall of the story and challenge their memory of the sequence of events by putting key story events in the correct order. COMPATIBILITY: IBM compatible or Macintosh.     Super Solvers Gizmos & Gadgets is an academic tutorial program for children with learning disabilities designed to help students understand the basic principles of physical science. Students discover how magnets attract, light bulbs glow and scales blance. The program includes more than 260 physical science puzzles and simulations to create an awareness of real-world science applications. Students receive immediate feedback on their answers and clues to help them find the correct solutions. Now available on all major platforms, including CD-ROM, the progam includes new character voices and a spoken, animated introduction. Customization options allow for selecting specific areas of focus and tracking progress. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM computer or compatible, or an Apple Macintosh computer. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The windows version requires 386/ 25 MHz, 256-color VGA, Windows 3.1 or highter, 4 MB memory, a mouse and a Windows-compatible sound card.     Super Solvers Midnight Rescue is a reading tutorial program designed to develop comprehension and deductive-thinking skills for individuals who are developmentally disabled. Children build on these skills as they collect clues and try to discover who is the Master of Mischief in disguise. The program builds essential reading comprehension skills and word power as players read for main ideas, recall key facts, draw inferences and build vocabulary. It improves deductive thinking skills through gathering, organizing, and analyzing information. There are eight levels of all-out reading action, each having onscreen definitions and pronunciations. COMPATIBILITY: IBM compatibles and Macintosh. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: IBM: Dos 5.0 or higher; Windows 3.1 or higher; 386 DX/33MHz or better; hard disk; double speed CD-ROM drive; 256 color VGA. This program strengthens thinking and numerical reasoning through the use of charts, graphs and maps as players solve word problems that have been left by the Master of Mischief and collect clues to determine his whereabouts. It has vivid and realistic graphics, fully narated introduction with digitized speech, and spoken player hints. Children can customize the program by choosing the type of math problems, range of numbers, and level of challenge. COMPATIBILITY: IBM and compatibles or Macintosh.   15. TREASURE GALAXY!

    Treasure Galaxy! is a math tutorial program designed to develop an understanding of measurement, basic fractions, geometric shapes and calendar reading for persons with cognitive disabilities. Revolving around an animated space adventure where the user must discover stolen crystals, this tutorial program features six mathematical activities designed to provide the participant the opportunity to collect the crystals. These activities, at each of the three space stations, include assembling basic geometric shapes into prescribed patterns based on an ancient Chinese puzzles (tangrams); using a calendar to measure the days, weeks and months of the year; determining the length and weight (all measurements) of a host of household items; and understanding the basic concepts behind fractions is also involved. The user also learns the meaning of equations through simple counting, addition, multiplication and subtraction in addition to recognizing number sequences in a Hangman-like game with numeric clues. COMPATIBILITY: Windows 3.1 or higher--386/25 MHz or better--Windows compatible sound card; Macintosh with a 68030 processor or better. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 4 MB of RAM; 3.5 inch HD discs included.

  16. TREASURE MATHSTORM!

    Treasure MathStorm! is an academic tutorial program designed to build abilities to tell time, count money, make change, and solve other math problems. This program strengthens thinking nd basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication; and develops an understanding of equalities and inequalities. It includes both drill-and-practice and problem-solving questions. There are six different math levels so it is easy to find one that automatically adjusts to the player's abilities.     The Ultimate Writing and Creativity Center is a word processor program designed to offer features that guide users through the five stages of writing for individuls who are developmenatally delayed. The full featured word processor enables children to create high quality reports, storybooks, newsletters, journals, and signs. Other features include Picture Place, where children are offered drawing and painting tools to illustrate their stories; Presentation Program, sllows children to play their documents as multimedia presentations complete with sound and animation; and Interactive Spoken Help, where a character guides children through the five stages of writing. The word processor offers a dictionary and thesaurus, spell checker that can be set to prompt the child to try a new spelling before offering suggestions, and text-to-speech capability to read the document aloud. The Desktop publishing offers pre-formatted documents, clip art pictures, sounds and animations, and multiple age appropriate fonts. COMPATIBILITY: CD-ROM for windows or Macintosh.
