The Universal Switch, models 1671 and 1671-8, is a versatile, multi-faceted touch switch that can be activated by use of the chin, head, any part of the arms or legs for individuals with severe physical disabilities. Only one gram of force is needed for activation, but it is sturdy enough to withstand severe blows. Write: Outloud is a voice output word processor program designed to speak letters, words, sentences and paragraphs in order to enhance user writing quality for children with low vision or severe physical or cognitive disabilities. This program reads each word as it is typed for consistent auditory feedback, and it can also reads any electronic text, enabling students tp research and present reports. Included imported graphics can also be used to prompt and support writing with the "get picture button," and on-screen tools enable the user to work without using menus. On-screen highlighting as the text is read enables the student to connect the spoken words with the written words. As the program speaks letters, words, and sentences, students can self-correct their own work. The built-in talking Franklin Dictionary and Homonym Checker recognizes phonetic spelling of irregular words and homonyms ansd easily confused words. Concise definitioons of the homonyms or confused words are provided to enable the user to select the correct word. The program also offers basic formating capabilities such as centering, indenting, and left or right text alignment. X-10 POWERHOUSE SYSTEM
X-10 Powerhouse System (formerly called X-10 System and BSR X-10 System) is a flexible remote appliance control system. A central control panel is plugged into a wall socket, and the desired appliances are plugged into appliance control modules around the house. The user selects which appliance he wants controlled on the central control panel, and a signal is broadcast through the house wiring to the appropriate control module. The module then turns the appliance on, off, up, down, etc. Many different types of control modules are available, including socket, wall switch, telephone, and thermostat models. The system and components are sold by various manufacturers under various names. Some companies have versions with scanning control panels (see separate entry under brandname Scanning X-10 Powerhouse by Prentke Romich Company). Contact X-10 (USA) about what systems are available. Cost will vary. X-10 also offers a remote radio transmitter that allows control from a greater distance, such as outside the home.

ZOOMCAPS
ZoomCaps are large print keytop overlays designed to make computer keyboards accesible to individuals with low vision. The alphanumeric characters are printed in large 40-point type and the labels affix to the top of the keys. Letters are presented in upper case only. There are ninety-one labels per set including labels for all alphanumeric keys and for many special keys (Esc, F1, Shift, Ctrl, etc). COMPATIBILITY: Sets are available for use on IBM and compatible keyboards and for Apple Macintosh and Apple IIe/IIc keyboards.
