  1. VISIONKEY Picture of VISIONKEY

The VisionKey is an assistive speech device designed to increase the ability to communicate in the workplace, classroom, and at home for individuals with speech difficulties or deficient motor skills. Typical users include those with quadriplegia, amyolateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease), muscular dytrophy, multiple sclerosis, or cerebral palsy. The basic concept of the device is that it works on eye position control. The user sees a square keychart before one eye, and selects a number, letter, or command by looking at it. The selected characters appear on the Display Unit and are forwarded to an optional computer. The equipment consists of an eyepiece mounted on standard eyeglass frames, linked by a cord to a book-sized Display Unit having a 20 character display on each side so that both the useer and the correspondent can read the message while they face each other. VisionKey allows you to use standard office software and unlike voiice recognition systems, it allows you to work in noisy environments without the possibility of being overheard. In the classroom you can work independently without disturbing other classmates and you can connect it to a word predicting program to write faster. On a personal level you are more independent because you can communicate with friends and family; write reminders to yourself; play computer games; and control your environment by using existing computer plug-in cards to turn on lights, adjust climate control or position bed or chair. Available keycharts includes custom designed to user's requirements, full 101 computer keyboard emulation, and extended Macintosh keyboard emulation. The unit comes with a custom black briefcase for storage. DIMENSIONS: Display unit is approximately 22x13x6 centimeters with characters measuring 20.9 millimeters. WEIGHT: Eyepiece weighs 60 grams (2 ounces).
