Kid Pix is a drawing program designed with Ke:nx Easy Overlays in order to provide access for children with physical disabilities who are unable to use a computer keyboard or a mouse. Kid Pix 2 and Kid Pix Studio are drawing programs designed to create multimedia presentationa and animated artwork for individuals with a cognitive or physical disability. Students can use the TouchWindow (see separate entry) to access this program which includes a talking alphabet, colorful rubber stamps that can be customized and resized, and a palette of Wacky Brushes. Slide Shows are easy to create, so children of all ages and levels can create multimedia reports, animations with sound effects, or stand alone slide shows. Kid Pix Studio is the CD-ROM version and offers additional animation projects, tools, video clips, and sound effects. LET'S START LEARNING!
Let's Start Learning! is an academic tutorial program designed to provide the essentials for learning for individuals with a learning disability. This program is multisubject with five different ctivities; multisensory, encouraging children's senses both on and off the computer; and multilevel with four level changes. It helps children to build preschool skills with letters, numbers, shapes, and patterns through interactive play. The audio combined with graphics and animation encourages children to dance and sing, jump and stretch to promote large motor skills activities. A song button brings to life an original song for each of the five activities and they can also be played on a regular CD player. Activities include the Counting Club, which introduces counting, number recognition, and simple math; ABC Dinner which teaches matching letters, recognizing letters and sounds, and identifying first letter sounds; Shape Shack which introduces fundamentals to reading, science and thinking through sorting and classification; and Pattern Parade which encourages children to identify and create patterns based on color, size and sound. The Living Books Library is a language and math tutorial program designed to demonstrate the power of language to explore, express, learn and communicate for individuals who are developmentally or physically disabled. This package in particular is designed to assist educators with integrating the Living Books CD-ROM titles into the classroom curriculum. Math Rabbit is an academic program designed to build early math skills while enriching appreciation of numbers for individuals who are developmentally handicapped. Students explore basic number concepts and develop skills in counting, adding, subtracting, and recognizing number relationships and patterns. They begin by matching sets of objects to numbers, then progress to adding and subtracting numbers up to 18. At the most advanced level, students add and subtract two-digit numbers. Math Workshop is a math tutorial program designed to devleop and practive critical math skills for children with a developmental or physical disability. By combining games, music and animated characters, children have fun as they develop problem solving, strategic thinking and computation skills. Each activity has multiple levels of difficulty designed to build both confidence and motivation. There are seven activities including Bowling for Numbers, Puzzle Patterns, Sticklers and Rhythm Generator. Operation Neptune is a math tutorial prgram designed to build confidence in math and problem solving skills for children who are mentally challenged. It strengthens problem solving and thinking skills necessary for pre-alegebra foundation by introducing algebraic equations and challenging players to read and interpret data from charts, graphs, maps and tables and perform calculations involving measurement concepts such as area, distance and volume. Read, Write & Type is a software tutorial program designed to teach reading and writing for children who have a learning disability. Reader Rabbit's Reading Development Library is an electronic book designed to build reading, writing and typing skills for children with a learning disability. There are two levels each offering two classic tales from three different characters' points of view. So, basically each level offers six unique stories. Each reading level in the series is targeted to a specific level of reading development and is geared towards children ages 5-7. They are graduated in difficulty and build upon the others. Each storybook includes three skill building activities that develop comprehension, thinking, vocabulary, and sequencing ability. Express It allows the children to write letters to their favorite storybook characters by filling in the missing words, and then they receive a personal response. Story Match lets the children build their vocabulary and thinking skills by matching key words from the stories to colorful pictures. Story Order is where the children develop recall of the story and challenge their memory of the sequence of events by putting key story events in the correct order. Treasure Galaxy! is a math tutorial program designed to develop an understanding of measurement, basic fractions, geometric shapes and calendar reading for persons with cognitive disabilities. Revolving around an animated space adventure where the user must discover stolen crystals, this tutorial program features six mathematical activities designed to provide the participant the opportunity to collect the crystals. These activities, at each of the three space stations, include assembling basic geometric shapes into prescribed patterns based on an ancient Chinese puzzles (tangrams); using a calendar to measure the days, weeks and months of the year; determining the length and weight (all measurements) of a host of household items; and understanding the basic concepts behind fractions is also involved. The user also learns the meaning of equations through simple counting, addition, multiplication and subtraction in addition to recognizing number sequences in a Hangman-like game with numeric clues. This program builds on reading comprehension and vocabulary; sorting and pattern matching; arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; and science concepts. It also covers other skills such as work identification, object comparison and deductive thinking. Over 350 spoken questions and hints make playing easy for beginning and non-readers. The Ultimate Writing and Creativity Center is a word processor program designed to offer features that guide users through the five stages of writing for individuls who are developmenatally delayed. The full featured word processor enables children to create high quality reports, storybooks, newsletters, journals, and signs. Other features include Picture Place, where children are offered drawing and painting tools to illustrate their stories; Presentation Program, sllows children to play their documents as multimedia presentations complete with sound and animation; and Interactive Spoken Help, where a character guides children through the five stages of writing.
