1. BEGINNING BRAILLE FOR ADULTS

   Beginning Braille for Adults, by Mabel Nading and Ramona Waldhof, is a braille reading tutorial program designed to teach braille to adults and high school students who are blind or have low vision. The textbook covers the braille alphabet, numbers, punctuation, and Grade 2 abbreviations and contractions. It is written entirely in Braille, with an accompanying instructional cassette, and can be used for self-instruction or in Braille classes.

2. BRAILLE ALPHABET CARDS

   Braille Alphabet Cards are designed for use with individuals who are blind or have low vision. Each card shows the alphabet and numbers in standard print and Braille. The cards come in a package of 100.

3. BRAILLE IS BEAUTIFUL CURRICULUM SET

   The Braille is Beautiful Curriculum Set is designed to promote braille literacy and awareness of Braille among students who are blind or have low vision as well as others in the 4th through 6th grades. It suggests a variety of learning formats including full group discussion, small work groups, fact sheets, quizzes, interactive games, and applied projects. This curriculum set includes a course discussion guide, a service learning guidebook, six slates and styluses, 30 Braille workbooks, six decks of Uno cards to be brailled by students, and the Braille is Beautiful Video Set (see separate entry).

4. BRAILLE IS BEAUTIFUL VIDEO SET

   The Braille is Beautiful Video Set is a braille instruction kit designed to promote braille literacy and general awareness of Braille among students who are blind or have low vision, as well as others in the 4th through 6th grades, and their teachers and parents. This instructional set includes two videos about Braille, "Jake and the Secret Code" and "That the Blind May Read." It also includes a course instruction guide, a Braille slate and stylus for Braille writing demonstrations, and a Braille alphabet card.

5. BRAILLE SERIES

   The Braille Series is a Braille reading tutorial program designed for teaching braille to students who are blind or have low vision. The set includes a set of three textbooks, with Book 1 covering Grade 1 braille, Book 2 covering Grade 2 braille, and Book 3 covering advanced Grade 2 braille. OPTIONS: Each volume is available in a Braille version and a print version for sighted teachers or parents.

6. MCDUFFY READER

   The McDuffy Reader is a manual for teaching Braille to adults who are blind or have low vision and who are learning braille. This primer was written by Sharon Duffy. 7. NFB LIGHT SENSOR (MODEL AIG20S)

   The NFB Light Sensor, model AIG20S, is a light probe designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. The NFB Light Sensor is a palm-sized unit. When a button is pressed, the sensor buzzes if it senses light. A higher pitch indicates more light. POWER: Uses two triple-A batteries (included). DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 2.5 x 1 x 1 inch.

8. TALKING TRAVEL ALARM CLOCK (MODEL AIC20T)

   The Talking Travel Alarm Clock, model AIC20T, is a voice output alarm clock designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This portable clock speaks in a female voice when each button is pressed. Features include 12 or 24 hour cycle, hourly time announcements, alarm. This clock is good for travel as it is about the size of a credit card and features sliding panel that covers the controls and battery. POWER: uses a long-life lithium battery.    The 10-Digit Talking Calculator with Music and Alarm is a voice-output calculator designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. The calculator has a 10-digit liquid crystal display (LCD), with voice output for entries and results.    The 20/20 Easy to Read Pen is a low vision pen designed for use by individuals with low vision. This pen writes bold lines in easy-to-read black ink. It is also thick in diameter so it is easy to grip.

   The 50/50 Cane is a folding white cane designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This two-section white cane has a plastic handle with a wrist loop. OPTIONS: Fiberglass or carbon fiber. DIMENSIONS: 55, 57, 59, 61, or 63 inches in length. COLOR: White.

4. ACCU-CHEK VOICEMATE SYSTEM

   The Accu-Chek VoiceMate System is a voice output glucose monitor system designed for use by individuals with diabetes who are blind or have low vision. It provides clear voice prompts to guide users through each step of blood sugar testing, including insertion of the test strip and application of a drop of blood. It also identifies insulin vials and stores up to 100 insulin test results in memory. The system includes a blood glucose monitor, a voice unit, test strips, lancets, control solution, a check strip, an earphone, a carrying case, and print and cassette instructions in English and Spanish.    The Aspheric Illuminated Magnifier is a magnifying lens with light designed for persons with low vision who need extra light to read print. 6. AUDIBLE BATTERY TESTER

   The Audible Battery Tester is designed for persons who are blind or have low vision. The device tests 9-volt, AA, AAA, C, D, and N size batteries. The user places the battery in the tester, then presses a button. As the button is pressed, a continuous beep is heard if the battery has power. The louder the beep, the more power remains in the battery. The Audible Battery Tester also has a light indicator for those who can see.

7. BAGEL BITER GUILLOTINE

   The Bagel Biter Guillotine is a bagel slicer and cutting guide designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision or fine motor or upper extremity disabilities. This bagel slicer has a serrated, Xylan-coated, non-stick blade behind an acrylic safety shield. The bagel is sliced while held in the Bagel Biter's specially designed base. 14. BRUNTON BRAILLE COMPASS (MODEL 16B)

    The Brunton Braille Compass, model 16B, is a tactile compass designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The compass has a raised dial on which an arrow represents north, while east, south, and west are represented by Braille letters. Dots denote intercardinal points. The user holds the compass level for roughly 10 seconds to allow the compass card to find North, then opens the cover slowly to lock the card in place. With a finger, the user finds the graduation on the compass card that is closest to the raised index line on the dial. This is the direction the user is facing.     This Checkers set is a tactile boardgame designed for use by players who are blind or have low vision. The checkers are square or red wood pieces for easy tactile identification. Each row of beads is divided into two sections, with four beads in one section representing one (1) through four (4) and a single bead in another section representing five (5). 21. DICTIONARY OF BRAILLE PROBLEM WORDS

    The Dictionary of Braille Problem Words is a Braille book designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This volume identifies words that may be ambiguous or have other problems when written in contracted Grade 2 Braille. It is published in Twin Vision format with adjacent pages of ink-print and Braille, making it possible for sighted teachers and parents to use the dictionary together with students. It comes in two volumes, A-L and M-Z.

22. EASY THREADING NEEDLES

    Easy Threading Needles are easy thread sewing needles designed for use by persons with limited dexterity, or who are blind or have low vision. The metallic needle's square eye is easier to thread than standard needle eyes. DIMENSIONS: 0.5 inches long.

23. FOOD CHOPPER

    The Food Chopper is a circular chopper designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. It is designed to be used inside a metal or glass bowl. The food, such as vegetables or nuts, is placed inside the bowl, and can then be safely chopped. DIMENSIONS: 3 inches in diameter.

24. GROOVED WRITING BOARD

    The Grooved Writing Board is a writing guide designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The lones on the board are slightly raised so that they may be felt through a sheet of paper. The user places a sheet of paper on top of the board, then writes above the lines. 25. HANDBOOK OF BRAILLE CONTRACTIONS

    The Handbook of Braille Contractions is a manual for teaching Grade 2 Braille contractions and abbreviations for individuals who are blind or have low vision. This dictionary presents contractions and abbreviations with their meanings in alphabetical order, with Braille and standard print on facing pages.

26. HEAVYWEIGHT SELF-THREADING SEWING MACHINE NEEDLES

    Heavyweight Self-Threading Sewing Machine Needles are self-threading needles designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision or limited dexterity. These large needles have a separation just under the machine head for threading.

27. HI-MARK TACTILE PEN

    The Hi-Mark Tactile Pen is a tactile marker designed for tactile marking of household items by individuals who are blind or have low vision. It is a tube of fluorescent liquid paste that becomes hard plastic when it dries. Drying time is approximately two hours. It can be applied directly to paper, plastic, wood, glass, cloth or metal. It will not stick to flexible plastic. It can be used to create tactile maps or to mark control settings on stoves, microwave ovens, toaster ovens, washers, dryers, etc. COLOR: fluorescent orange, white, or black.

29. KELVIN TALKING THERMOSTAT

    The Kelvin Talking Thermostat is a low vision thermostat designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision, mobility disabilities, or severe physical disabilities. This programmable thermostat controls heat, fan, and air conditioner functions. It can be operated by pushing its large tactile buttons, all of which talk, or through voice commands. To initiate voice commands, the user presses a button, claps hands, knocks on a table or desk, or whistles. When a button is pressed, a clear voice states what that button signifies. The thermostat can also announce the time, room temperature, and temperature setting. Programming buttons include "Set Day," "Set Time," and "Raise" or "Lower" temperature. The thermostat can be programmed to lower the temperature daily at specific times of day, such as evening, and to raise the temperature the following morning. It can also be programmed for weekends or vacations, when the residence is unoccupied, and to adjust automatically for periods when the house is occupied again. Other features include a microphone, Fahrenheit or Celsius settings, and an LCD display. POWER: Uses four double-A batteries. The unit is equipped with a low battery warning.     The Kenneth Jernigan Tactile Map is a tactile relief map of the United States designed for use by children who are blind or have low vision.     The Klick-Lock Padlock is a tactile combination padlock designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. The combination is selected using five levers, and the padlock is locked by clicking it shut.

32. LADY'S SILVER TONE TALKING WATCH

    The Lady's Silver Tone Talking Watch is a voice output watch designed for use by women who are blind or have low vision. The time is announced in a female voice. This four-button watch offers an optional hourly announcement, plus a choice of three alarms, cuckoo, beeps or a rooster crow. It has an indigo blue face with a silver tone bezel, and the hours are marked with silver slashes at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock and smaller silver dots at the remaining hours.     The Auditory Luggage Identifier/Locator is an audible luggage locator designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. The device consists of a small transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter stays with the user and attaches to any keychain. The receiver attaches easily and securely to any luggage handle. POWER: Uses one 9-volt battery (included).

36. LUX LONG RING TIMER (MODEL 2428)

    The Lux Long Ring Timer, model 2428, is a tactile timer for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. It times periods from 1 to 60 minutes. The rotary center knob has raised lines each minute and a raised print number and line at each 5 minute interval going clockwise. The timer has a spring wound movement in a high impact plastic case. 40. NEEDLE THREADER FOR SEWING MACHINE

    The Needle Threader for Sewing Machine is designed for use by persons who are blind, have low vision, or limited dexterity.
