MIMIO FLIPCHART

(Verified 7/2011) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Mimio Flipchart is a digital presentation recorder designed to allow individuals with low vision to see what is written on a flipchart in a meeting or a classroom. It uses ultrasonic technology to record the position of markers enclosed in special electronic sleeves as they are moved across the paper of any standard easel pad. The "capture bar" of this digital presentation recorder mounts to any existing flipchart and connects to a personal computer through a USB or serial cable. Every line or letter written on the flipchart appears in real time on the personal computer screen. Used in a classroom or a meeting room, this product can provide real-time access to what is written on the flipchart for students or meeting participants with low vision. Presentations can be saved in .jpg, .bmp, or Windows metafile formats, or sent as e-mail, fax, or HTML documents. An accompanying software program allows users to enlarge writing, to view lines of writing with heavier strokes, and to change backgrounds and colors to enhance contrast. This product comes with a capture bar for recording pen strokes, a slide-on mounting plate, four standard flipchart markers with electronic marker sleeves, a USB cable, a serial cable, and a software CD-ROM. The lecturer or speaker attaches the device to any whiteboard up to four by eight feet in size and writes on the whiteboard with markers in special electronic sleeves. Every stroke is recorded in time order, and appears in real time on the screen of a personal computer or laptop attached to the recording device. Used in a classroom or a meeting room, this product can provide real-time access to what is written on the whiteboard for students or meeting participants with low vision. It can also provide real-time access through the Internet. An accompanying software program allows users to enlarge writing, to view lines of writing with heavier strokes, and to change backgrounds and colors to enhance contrast. With its built-in memory, this digital whiteboard recorder can record and store up to ten hours of notes for later viewing. On this globe, water is designated by smooth surfaces, land masses are defined by use of a grainy texture, mountain ranges have a different texture, and there are raised lines for longitude and latitude. There are no tactile political boundaries. A clear synthesized voice provides information regarding population, governments, currency, climate, and other geographical facts when the globe or a control panel are touched with a special pen that comes with the globe. The control panel has Braille and large print characters, allowing access to games as well as geographical information. There is also a Braille alphabetic key panel on the globe surface providing access to additional information about each country. The system uses GPS (global positioning satellite) and digital maps to identify locations and tell users how to get to specific destinations. The device identifies nearby streets and intersections, and tells the user when a destination or other landmark is nearby. Users can enter their own landmarks or use the list that comes with the digital map. The device provides an itinerary when the user enters the addresses of the departure point and destination, and it can be used when walking or in a taxi, bus, or other vehicle. OPTIONS: Digital maps covering most Western countries are available. They can be bought online and downloaded, or ordered and delivered on CD or Compact Flash cards. It has large keys and a large display to enable users with low vision to do scientific, statistical, and trigonometric calculations. The calculator performs all basic scientific and mathematical functions. Its keys can also be custom labeled for added tactile reference and reinforcement. The display is a high contrast eight digit liquid crystal display (LCD). The keypad is simplified and uncluttered and the keys have high contrast print. Operations keys are color differentiated. Keys require positive activation, eliminating faulty entries by users with diminished manipulation skills. Power turns off automatically when the calculator is left unattended. This large print calculator comes with a spiral-bound, flat opening large print owner's manual printed in a 16 point font. POWER: Uses battery (included) with a battery life of approximately 5,000 hours. OPTIONS: Keyguard to aid keypad targeting and control.
