BASE TRAINER (MODEL BT-4)
Base Trainer, model BT-4, is a direct selection communicator and perceptual training activity designed for use by children with communication or speech disabilities. This augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device has four pockets holding switch plates in an in-line layout. Four audio messages can be recorded (up to 8 seconds per message) and played back by pressing one of the plates. To help users with object discrimination, picture cards and/or objects can be placed on an elevated platform with a card holder and Velcro securing strip, located behind the plates. Two output jacks are provided for external connections to control toys, appliances, and other devices. Two input jacks are provided for switch access. IADAPTER
The iAdapter is a tablet computer protector designed for use by individuals with grasping, upper extremity and fine motor disabilities who use an Apple iPad. The hard case fits around the outside of the iPad, but does not cover the touch screen. The iAdapter also features two amplified speakers with adjustable volume to deliver sound for people that use the iPad as a direct selection communicator. A stereo headset jack is available. The iAdapter has a large handle, rubberized corners and a cover to protect the iPad’s home button. It also features a plastic tabletop stand, a shoulder strap, and threaded inserts on the back of the case for attaching to a wheelchair mounting plate (not included). OVERLAY DESIGNER PRO
Overlay Designer Pro is a symbolic language picture creation programs designed for use with individuals with communication or cognitive disabilities or with autism. It is intended for use with the AMDi Smart series of communicators (see separate entries). This software has a large set of pre-designed templates for the creation of communication pages and boards. It includes more than 15,000 SymbolStix symbols developed for communication, 16,000 other symbol sets and 1,500 Tech Syms as well as pre-recorded sound files. Overlay Designer Pro provides the user with the ability to search for symbols or other images. It also includes a Smart Series Flash Programmer that allows for overlays created with the software to be stored on a flash memory card that can be installed into an AMDi Smart series communicator (see separate entries). The Partner One/Stepper is a direct selection sequential communicator designed for use by individuals with communication or cognitive disabilities. On this one-button sequential-messaging communication aid, messages are programmed in a preset order and played back in succession. Any number of steps can be recorded within the allotted recording time of 60 seconds. The recorded sequence can also be played in reverse order. TECH/SCAN 32 & TECH/SCAN 32 PLUS
Tech / Scan 32 and Tech / Scan 32 Plus are direct selection communicators designed for use by individuals with communication disabilities. These direct selection communicators can play back 32 separate messages per level on two, four, or six levels. Messages can be scanned in three different modes (Linear, Step, and Row/Column) at three different scan speeds (slow, fast, and medium). The scanning grid provides the user an uninterrupted view of the scanning lights without having to look through a hole in the overlay. This makes changing overlays easy for therapists, family members, and users by eliminating the need to punch holes into the overlays. Tech Scan 32 Plus has an audio prompt (an audible beep) to provide a scanning cue for users with low vision. These direct selection communicators are similar to Tech/Speak 32 (see separate entry), with the addition of scanning and/or audible scanning cues. Messages on both models are spoken in high-quality "Real Voice" audio. Messages are activated by a light touch on the surface of the message cells. Functions are controlled by switches on the back. There is an adjustable on/off volume control and level switch. The devices automatically turn off when not activated after five scanning sweeps, and turn back on with a touch of the user switch. These devices are drop resistant, able to withstand rough handling, such as falling off of a table or being thrown against a wall, and water resistant for easy cleaning, making them hygienic as well as resistant to adverse environmental conditions. A shoulder strap is included. POWER: Uses rechargeable battery pack. The battery provides up to eight hours of use with a recharging time of four hours. These direct selection communicators each have eight message cells that produce clear audible four-second messages when pressed. Users can select from eight message sets (or levels), for a total of 64 messages. These devices are similar to Tech/Talk 8x8 (see separate entry) with the addition of scanning and audible prompts. On both of these direct selection communicators, the message cells can be scanned using a light emitting diode (LED) built into the case. Users can scan at three speeds, in linear or single switch step scan mode. In addition, Tech/Scan 8 Plus has an audible prompt, a beep that can be turned on or off.
