    Sendero GPS Standard and Deluxe is a voice output electronic mobility aid designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The package includes software, a Bluetooth GPS receiver with WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System), a storage card, an audio tutorial, and maps with over 13,000,000 points of interest in the U.S. and Canada or other supported countries. The Standard version comes with a one gigabyte (GB) Compact Flash card with one map section installed and the remaining maps on DVD. The Deluxe version comes with a 16 GB Compact Flash card with all country maps installed. One future electronic upgrade comes free of charge.

  1. KNFBREADER MOBILE Picture of KNFBREADER MOBILE

    The knfbReader Mobile is a cell phone, optical character recognition device, and voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The user takes a photo of the text to be read with the built-in cell phone camera, and the text is read aloud. An automatic viewfinder tells the user whether the entire document is in the photo. While the text is being read, the device can display the text on the phone’s built-in screen and highlight each word as it is spoken. The device can also recognize U.S. currency. Scanned text can be stored on a flash memory card, or transfered to and from a computer or a braille notetaker. Reading speed is adjustable. The cell phone is a Nokia N82 using a Symbian S60 operating system, with a built-in 5-megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash. The phone has 40 megabytes (MB) free RAM, 50 MB free Flash storage, and a Flash card slot. Supported languages are US English or UK English. The device comes with polarizers for the camera and flash, and printed and on-device help files (braille available by request). OPTIONS: Voice output software for cell phone functions (Talks or MobileSpeak); GPS software; and phone case.

  2. MINIGUIDE Picture of MINIGUIDE

    Miniguide is a vibrating and audible electronic mobility aid designed for use by individuals who are blind, deaf blind, or have low vision. This ultrasonic device detects obstacles from 1.5 to 26 feet away to augment information from other mobility aids, such as a cane or dog guide. Two sensors covered by mesh at the front of the unit send and receive the echo-location signals. A durable plastic casing covers the rest of the unit. The aid vibrates to indicate the distance to objects; the faster the vibration rate the nearer the object. A single push button is used to switch the aid on or off and also to change settings. The aid has modes for detecting objects at distances of 26, 13, 6.5, 3, or 1.5 feet. This device can assist users in avoiding obstacles such as parked cars, poles and street furniture; detecting overhanging obstacles such as tree branches; locating a person at a sales counter; locating the end of a line; locating doorways and gaps; determining if elevator doors are open; navigating around tables, chairs and office environments. POWER: Uses one 123A battery. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 0.75 x 3 x 1.4 inches. WEIGHT: 2 ounces.

  3. MOBILE GEO

    Mobile Geo is a voice output electronic mobility aid designed for use by individuals who are blind or who have low vision. This navigation software works with Windows Mobile-based Smartphones, Pocket PC phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Mobile Geo also seamlessly integrates with Code Factory's cell phone screen readers, Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs and Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones (sold separately, see entries). This software enables the user to pinpoint his/her location, learn about the points of interest (POIs) in the immediate vicinity, plan a route between specified points of origin and destination, and get instructions on maneuvers to make as well as information about waypoints along a route being followed. It is available with map data and POI files for additional countries, including the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, and Greece. (Maps for other countries may also be made available upon request.) The first screen of the application always displays the most important information including GPS status, current position and heading, upcoming waypoints, approaching turns, and active modes. GPS status shows the GPS signal quality, accuracy scale, and the number of satellites that the GPS receiver is currently tracking It functions with speech output from various text-to-speech engines developed by providers such as Fonix, Loquendo, and Acapela. It is, therefore, able to speak more than 20 languages. This software works with external Bluetooth GPS receivers as well as the built-in GPS receivers present in some mobile devices. It can be used with the speech output routed to a Bluetooth headset. Application commands can be performed using numeric or QWERTY keyboards integrated with the device, the Pocket PC touch screen, or an external keyboard. The software will continue to run even when the application is minimized to the background, allowing the user to check email, browse the internet, read books, listen to music, etc., while still receiving information about the active route. The most important functions can be accessed using commands that may be performed even when focus is in another application or screen not related to Mobile Geo. It can be used with more than 20 different Braille devices for input and output. This software is activated using Code Factory's User-Centered Licensing system, which allows the user to ransfer the product license from one mobile device to another of the same platform type and version.   4. NUANCE ZOOMS Picture of NUANCE ZOOMS

    Nuance ZOOMS is a cell phone display magnifier program designed for use by individuals with low vision. This program magnifies the displays of Symbian Series 60 handsets. It can magnify the full screen area from 1.5 up to 4 times. In Distributed Views mode, the screen is divided into several areas to display various elements simultaneously, magnified to double their original size. As the user scrolls through a menu or list, the program magnifies each item along with some of the surrounding area. Key commands allow the user to magnify specific elements such as the window title, soft keys, or battery level indicator. When the magnifier is on an object that does not fit the screen in its entirety, after a brief delay the program begins to scroll automatically through the text so the user can view the complete contents. The display can be converted into black and white, grayscale, or color inverted. Auto-Zoom mode resizes text as defined by the user, independent of the text's original size. This magnifier program can operate with the Nuance TALKS screen reader, with shared key commands and magnification focus synchronized with reading of items on the screen.

    The Sense View Portable, model P430, also called Portable SenseView, is a portable video magnifier designed for use by individuals with low vision. Images are magnified on a 480 x 272 pixel digital liquid crystal display (LCD) screen. The unit can also take magnified still shots for closer viewing (for example, a shot of a high display rack). The magnification rate can be increased by pushing a digital magnification button. The display has six color modes (full color, black on white, white on black, yellow on black, yellow on blue, and blue on white) and adjustable brightness. Color mode and brightness are controlled with separate buttons. OPTIONS: External camera module (model P430-PECM) for use in handwriting. POWER: Uses internal rechargeable battery. Battery status can be checked by turning on the battery indicator on the LCD screen. DIMENSIONS: LCD screen is 4.3 inches measured diagonally.

  6. STREETTALK VIP

    StreetTalk VIP is a voice output electronic mobility aid designed for use by individuals with blindness and low vision. Designed to be installed on the PAC Mate Omni (not included; see entry), provides route guidance to users in vehicles or on foot. The system includes millions of poionts of interest with addresses and phone numbers, including transit stations, dining establishments, parks, museums, banks, ATMs, and more. Users can save turn-by-turn directions, receive output in voice or braille, and print, emboss, beam, or e-mail routes to other users. In Virtual Mode users can explore the map as though they are pedestrians, with cross streets, distances, direction and Points of Interest announced as they virtually move around the map. While traveling, the system announces each maneuver in speech or braille and enables users to check bearing, speed, distance traveled, and distance to the destination. When traveling off road or to mark favorite shortcuts, users can create their own routes by dropping "breadcrumbs" as they travel, recall the route at any time, and travel it in either direction. The system includes intuitive menus as well as shortcut keystrokes to specific information. To use the system, the user installs StreetTalk VIP in the PAC Mate Omni, and pops in a CompactFlash (CF) card containing maps (one country map set is included). StreetTalk VIP can be used with a choice of many popular Bluetooth GPS receivers (not included). With Bluetooth, the receiver can be placed up to 30 feet from the user, on a window sill, the rear deck of a car, or on a guide dog harness. OPTIONS: Bluetooth GPS receiver, socket bluetooth card for PAC Mate Omni, and additional maps.

  7. TREKKER BREEZE Picture of TREKKER BREEZE

    The Trekker Breeze is a voice output electronic mobility aid designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. It uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to determine a user's current location, and it verbally announces names of nearby streets, intersections, and landmarks as the user presses a single button. Maps are available for 20 countries as well as for specific regions and localities. When the user is in a vehicle, the unit announces all intersections, allowing the user to exit at the desired location. Routes and landmarks can be saved and recorded for future use. This unit does not have automatic route creation to commercial points of interest. The unit has direct buttons to functions, and the buttons are large and distinctive. A shoulder strap and carrying case are included. POWER: Uses a battery with 8 hours of battery life. DIMENSIONS (HxWxD): 5 x 2 x 1 inches. WEIGHT: 7 ounces.

    Voice Sense is a braille notetaker and personal digital assistant designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This unit has a Perkins-style keyboard for inputting information and synthesized speech for outputting information. It has a high speed processor with 1 gigabyte of memory, a USB OTG port, and SD and CF slots. Functions include notetaking, address and schedule manager, e-mail, voice recording, a Daisy talking book player, an MP3 player, an FM radio receiver, and wireless networking (LAN and Bluetooth). POWER: Uses rechargeable lithium polymer battery. DIMENSIONS (HxDxW): 0.98 x 3.6 x 7.4 inches. WEIGHT: 0.58 pounds.
