EYE-PAL SOLO
The Eye-Pal SOLO is a voice output reading machine and optical character recognition device designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This motion activated optical character recognition device reads from a book, newspaper, or other printed material automatically after the material is placed face down on the unit's scanner. Reading stops when the material is removed. When a hand is waved near the reading material, the reading pauses; when the hand passes again, the reading resumes. The unit can be connected to a monitor, and the magnified text will be automatically displayed with the words highlighted as they are spoken. OPTIONS: Keypad. EYE-PAL SOLO LV
The Eye-Pal SOLO LV is a voice output reading machine and video magnifier designed for use by individuals with low vision. This low vision reading system reads aloud almost any printed material. The unit is composed of a rectangular base with a camera mounted on at the top of an arm that extends from the center of one of the sides of the base. Some controls are located on the side of the base opposite the camera's support arm, and there is a handheld keypad that connects to the base with a cable. When a document, book or newspaper is placed on its base, the Eye-Pal SOLO LV begins to read the text aloud within seconds, regardless of the page's orientation. Reading can be controlled with the unit's controls, or hand movements made between the camera and the material can be used to pause and start the reading without touching the buttons. Up to four pages can be saved. To be used for magnification, the unit must be connected to a monitor or television. When a document is placed under the camera, the magnified text appears on the screen in a few seconds. Magnified text can be highlighted as it is read aloud. Magnified text is wrapped within the screen, and the magnification level, color, brightness, and contrast are all adjustable. In addition, small objects such as hearing aids and medicine bottles can be magnified in three increments up to 12 times their size on a 19-inch screen to facilitate reading of their labels.

JORDY
JORDY is a video magnifier designed for use by individuals with low vision. It is worn like a pair of glasses, and can be used for such activities as watching television, using a computer, reading and writing, painting, playing cards or board games, and more. Objects are magnified up to 30 times. This video magnifier features a wide field of view, automatic focus, object locator capability, focus lock capability, and digital zoom capability. There are four viewing modes: Full color, black and white, high contrast positive, and high contrast negative. This magnifier comes with a control unit, a plastic case, a belt clip, glare shields, and a cleaning cloth. JOT A DOT POCKET BRAILLER
The Jot a Dot Pocket Brailler is a manual braille writer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This small, lightweight brailler has six keys for Braille entry. The keys have high contrast colors for identification by users with low vision. Braille is written from the left hand side of the page to the right, with 20 cells of braille per line. The user can read braille as it is written by turning the unit over. A built-in reading stand keeps the unit stable when resting on hard surfaces. Tactile line and cell indicators show the current location on the page. The line indicator shows which line is being brailled, and the cell indicator shows the position of the embossing head on the line. This brailler uses standard photocopy paper (80 GSM Bond or 20-pound paper) in A5 and A6 paper sizes (one-half and one-quarter letter size paper). KURZWEIL - NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND READER
The Kurzweil - National Federation of the Blind Reader is a voice output optical character recognition device designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This handheld unit scans text and reads it aloud with synthetic speech. The user holds the unit's camera over print, and it snaps a picture. In seconds it reads the contents of the printed document in clear synthetic speech. Scanned text can be discarded, stored for later reading, or transferred to a computer or braille notetaker/ PDA. To aid the user in aiming the camera, the unit provides a spoken Field of View report, telling the user which of the edges of a document are within the camera's field of view and how large the image is in the viewing area. There is also a viewfinder for sighted use. The device has nine control buttons, a visual display screen, and a headphone jack. POWER: Uses household current and a rechargeable camera battery. LIBERTY SOLO
The Liberty Solo is a video magnifier designed for use by individuals with low vision. It consists of a mouse camera unit and a large color TFT (thin film transistor) flat screen display. The screen is tiltable to allow the user to choose an ergonomic reading position. Text can be viewed in high contrast reading modes and user-programmable semi-color modes. The camera has an overview mode that allows the user to look at text, photos, and graphics from a distance or even at his or her own face. The flat screen display has a second video input port for another camera, such as one focused on a blackboard or Ash Technologies' Prisma (see separate entry). The camera also has VGA output for connecting to a computer monitor. A handwriting stand is included that facilitates handwriting, and also enables reading in smaller magnifications. The Mountbatten Learning System (MBLS) is an electric braille writer and training device designed for use by children who are learning braille.
