  1. DETECTABLE DIRECTIONAL GUIDANCE SYSTEM

    --- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 02/2009) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Detectable Directional Guidance System is a detectable orientation surface designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The system consists of slightly raised strips that are glued to the floor or other surface in patterns that indicate a bus stop, street crossing, or stairs and provide directional guidance. The slightly raised surface is detectable with both cane and feet, yet does not hinder those in wheelchairs or using devices to assist in walking. Three strips indicate a bus or other transit stop; four strips indicate a crosswalk; five strips indicate a stairway leading either up or down. DIMENSIONS (LxW): All markers are approximately 2 x 2 feet. COLORS: Bus indicator strips are yellow, crosswalk and stairway strips are red.
