  1. ALLORA Picture of ALLORA

Allora is a keyboard communicator designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities. This text-to-speech device enables any message typed on the keyboard and shown on the display to be read out clearly in a high-quality, natural sounding male or female voice. These digitized sounds can be used to attract attention, animate a conversation, orfor playback of a human voice or as a WAV or MP3 player. The synthesized voice (Realspeak) is available in different languages. The unit can change languages with a few keystrokes to accommodate multi-lingual settings. The text-to-speech capabilities are further enhanced by an intelligent word prediction system. A character keyed in will generate a predicted list of words that begin with that character. Word prediction can be further refined by the input of additional characters. When a complete word has been typed or inserted, the Allora predicts the next word using its knowledge of word pairs. The unit can also recall pre-stored messages. Commonly used phrases can be programmed under any key, and more than 100 messages can be stored. Abbreviation expansion can be used to display a whole message with just a few keystrokes. This communicator also has built-in scanning with no extra display required. When a standard switch is plugged in, pressing it will cause scanning to begin automatically. The row-column alphabet also takes advantage of word prediction. The unit features a waterproof keyboard with standard sized, easy-to-push, tactile keys. The liquid crystal (LCD) display consists of two lines with 40 characters each. The first line is used to write the message. The second line displays the word prediction list. The scanning keyboard appears on the right hand side of the display. Settings can be changed using a menu and the device has a USB personal computer (PC) connection for downloading software updates.
