Autism & PDD: Associations Interactive Software, model N44-0-WS, is a language tutorial program designed for use by children with autism or pervasive developmental disorder. This program teaches 45 pairs of things that go together in five computerized stories with animation and sound effects. Stories star a character called Buddy Bear. The program uses common everyday objects to teach association skills. Users are asked questions about the associations, with three response choices included for each question. Associations are based on one of five themes: helping at home, having fun, animals, getting ready for school, and picnic. Correct responses are reinforce immediately with amusing animations, sound effects, and a friendly “Good job!” Incorrect responses get a reassuring “Oops. Try again” message. The animation and sound effects bring context to each association-teaching screen. The program is designed to mprove receptive and expressive language, attention span, listening skills, and eye-hand coordination. A Quit button allows the program to be ended at any time. The program comes on a CD-ROM, and can be operated directly from the CD-ROM or copied onto a hard drive. Instructions and a jewel case are included. Click and Create Articulation Board Games Software, model N59-9, is speech remediation game software designed for use by speech therapists to create board games for children with speech disabilities. The program contains thousands of words and pictures that represent all articulation sounds, and can be used to create personalized games that motivate students to practice. The user can add words to the master list and code them by sound, position, and number of syllables for use on game boards. Boards can be designed to display pictures only, words only, or words and pictures on each game space. The Functional Communication Profile - Revised (FCP-R) is a language development evaluation system designed for use for assessment of individuals with cognitive or communication disabilities or autism. This descriptive assessment tool can be used to evaluate communication skills in individuals with developmental and acquired delays, from pre-kindergarten children through adults, in any setting, regardless of form of communication (sign, non-verbal, or augmentative). The Phonological Awareness Test 2, is a language development assessment program designed for use by therapists to evaluate the language skills of individuals with cognitive or communication disabilities. This individually-administered standardized test is designed to diagnose deficits in phonological awareness and phoneme-grapheme correspondence, to determine which skills to address in a remediation program. Subtests assess a wide variety of tasks correlated with early reading and spelling achievement. The tasks are generally arranged in a developmental sequence. This program enables individuals who do not recognize text to write with pictures. Picture symbols appear with each word as it is typed. The program also allows teachers and parents to make picture-based instructional materials, and includes a pictorial spell checker. The program includes over 3,800 Picture Communication Symbols, each in black and white and color, over 4,000 black and white Rebus symbols, with multiple symbols to choose from for many words. The user can import additional photos and graphics. Text and symbol sizes and background colors are adjustable, and symbols can appear above or below the text.
