The Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (UNIT) is a cognitive ability assessment program designed for use by students with cognitive, communication, learning, or speech disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing. This cognitive assessment program is a set of individually administered specialized tasks that measure cognitive abilities. Both administration and item response formats are completely nonverbal. The tests measure a broad range of complex memory and reasoning abilities, including both verbal (symbolic) and nonverbal mediation. Examiners employ eight hand and body gestures to explain the tasks to examinees. Response modes include manipulatives, paper and pencil, and pointing. The program includes Abbreviated, Standard, and Extended batteries. The assessment measures basic psychological processes in problem-solving models such as Response to Intervention (RTI). Tests can be scored by hand or with the included UNIT Compuscore software. Results include scaled scores and test age equivalents for all subtests. The assessment program comes with an examiner’s manual, Stimulus Book 1 & 2, 16 response chips, a response grid, nine cubes, a response mat, 10 symbolic memory cards, 25 record forms, 25 Mazes response booklets, a black pencil, a polybag, and a canvas carrying case.
