Mate Omni is a voice output bar code reader designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This portable talking bar code scanner provides voice identification of an item by scanning the item's bar code or Universal Product Code (UPC) label. This bar code reader has an omni-directional scanner that reads bar codes in any direction from up to 10 inches away. As the user rotates the scanner around the product, it identifies the product and reads the product description aloud in a digital voice. It comes with a database of over a million North American UPCs and product descriptions. Users can add items to the database and record information about the new items or about existing products. The user can also record, play, erase, and organize messages in memo mode. Voice output pitch and speed are adjustable. The unit has volume control and an ear plug jack for privacy. This small, lightweight handheld unit comes with an adjustable around-the-neck lanyard; carrying case with strap; 100 pre-printed bar code labels; a removable 256-megabyte (MB) CompactFlash memory card; and a User's Guide on CD.
