(Verified 06/2008) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The AlphaSmart 3000 is a word processor designed for use by individuals with communication, writing, or physical disabilities. Approximately the size of the keyboard of a standard laptop computer, this unit provides notetaking and standard word-processing capabilities (spell-check, cut/copy/save, find, foreign language characters, etc.) with a full-sized keyboard, one megabyte of memory, and storage capacity for up to 100 pages of text in eight different files. The included USB cable (available for Macintosh computers or personal computers) enables the files to be uploaded to most Macintosh or personal computer (PC) programs. Models AS30-IR and AS30-IR-RC are capable of transferring files via infrared. The unit is equipped with a clear four-line, 40-character wide liquid crystal display (LCD). All models include the AlphaSmart, a four-function calculator SmartApplet (mini-application) installed, batteries, and a user's guide. The unit can send data directly to standard serial printers using any serial cable (not included) or to parallel printers using a special AlphaSmart parallel printer cable (not included), POWER: Models AS30 and AS30-IR use three double-A batteries for 500 hours of use. Models AS30-RC and AS30-IR-RC use rechargeable NiMH batteries for 200 hours of use between charges and come with an alternating current (AC) adapter. Additional batteries and adapters are available. OPTIONS: SmartApplets and updater cables for additional functionality, training video, Professional Development Workshop Training Kit, printer cables, infrared upgrade kits, carrying case, and more.
