THERMOSCAN INSTANT THERMOMETER (HOME MODEL)

(Verified 06/2006) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Thermoscan Instant Thermometer (for home use, model HM-1) is a tympanic thermometer that takes a snapshot of the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue and displays the temperature in one second. The thermometer can be used with children or adults, and since it gages temperature instantaneously and is not inserted orally, is useful for persons with spasticity, uncontrolled head/body movements, or other conditions that might make use of an oral mercury thermometer difficult or dangerous. The eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control center of the brain, the hypothalamus, and the ear canal is a protected cavity (unaffected by environmental factors), making it an ideal temperature taking site. OPERATION: A lens filter is attached to the probe, "On" button is activated, and probe is positioned in the ear. Activation button is depressed for one second, and the probe is removed from the ear. Temperature is displayed on an LCD display with light in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, oral or rectal equivalent. FEATURES: 94 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit temperature range; auto shut-off after 2 minutes; shock resistant case with lens filter storage. DISPLAY: Lighted LCD that will alert user to battery level, user errors, or instrument malfunction as well as display the temperature. POWER: 9-volt battery (included) with minimum life of 1 year or approximately 300 uses. WEIGHT: 6 ounces. DIMENSIONS: 1.5 by 5 by 1 inches. WARRANTY: 1-year limited
