Picture of PRONTO! 40 The Pronto! 40 is a braille notetaker and voice output electronic organizer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. It has a 40-cell braille display with integrated cursor routing keys located left and right of the display; alternatively, a navistick (mini-joystick) can be used to place the cursor. The Pronto! 40 includes two interchangeable keyboards - an eight-key braille keyboard and a standard QWERTY keyboard. These keyboards provide natural speech output in additional to the braille display. The user can switch between the keyboards by exchanging the keyboard module without turning off the device. The Pronto! 40 can be used as a notebook, calendar, voice recorder, address and phone book, clock, standard and scientific calculator, and an MP3 player. It can also provide altitude and compass information. The device has four function keys to quick-launch applications, 128 megabytes (MB) random access memory (RAM), 64 MB flash memory, and a 1 gigabyte (GB) flash disk. It also includes a 4 GB SDHC memory card. The device can be used to receive and send SMS messages, read and write emails, navigate the Internet, and chat via MSN Messenger. The Pronto! 40 supports English and German speech output. It has two built-in stereo loudspeakers, a built-in microphone, and comes with a 3.5-millimeter jack for an external microphone and headphones (not included). Data can be transferred to and from a personal computer (PC) or reading devices such as Poet Compact, Poet Compact 2+ and Poet BE (see separate entries) using Microsoft ActiveSync. Interfaces include WLAN with WPA2 – IEEE 802.11g, Bluetooth, USB Type A Master, Mini-USB (slave) to Mini-B type, serial, and phone. The top of housing is made of aluminum, and the body is made of plastic. A protective slip-cover for traveling is included. ACCESSORIES: Visual display that shows the characters on the braille display and additional reading voices. POWER: Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery with 100-240 volt, 50-60 Hertz power charger (included). Operating time is up to 20 hours. DIMENSIONS (WxDxH): 11.7 x 6 x 1 inches. WEIGHT: Approximately 2.75 pounds.
