Picture of VARIOCONNECT 24 The VarioConnect 24 is a refreshable braille display and braille keyboard designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This unit has a display with 24 braille cells with integrated cursor routing keys located left and right of the display; alternatively, a navistick (mini-joystick) can be used to place the cursor. The VarioConnect 24 includes an eight-key braille keyboard with which the user types notes. The unit can be used to read and write text messages and operate a mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA), personal computer (PC), or notetaker. The device has three navigation keys left and three navigation keys right of the display, two ergonomically positioned space keys, four function keys, an on/off button, and internal settings menu in different languages. The device works with screen readers such as COBRA (see separate entry) as well as devices loaded with screen reader programs such as Virgo, Windows Eyes, Jaws, Apple VoiceOver, HAL, SuperNova, Nuance TALKS Premium, and Code Factory Mobile Speak. Connection is made through Bluetooth or USB. The top of this unit's housing is made of aluminum alloy and the body is made of plastic. ACCESSORIES: Protective cover for traveling. COMPATIBILITY: IBM PC running Windows or GNU/Linux and Apple Macintosh computers and iPod, iPhone and iPad. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Microsoft Windows; Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or higher; or iOS 4 or higher. POWER: Built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The unit can be charged through USB or through a 100-240 volt, 50-60 Hertz charger (included). Operating time is up to approximately 25 hours using Bluetooth. DIMENSIONS (WxDxH): 8.4 x 3.4 x 0.7 inches. WEIGHT: 0.9 pound.
