Picture of OLYMPUS VN-7000 The Olympus VN-7000 is a digital recorder that can be used by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This portable recorder features Code Excited Linear Prediction (CELP) technology and 81 hours of recording time for HQ (high quality sound recording) mode, 215.83 hours for SP (standard recording) mode, and 1,208.5 hours for LP (long-term recording) mode using 2 gygabytes (GB) of built-in flash memory. The overall frequency responses are between 200 Hz to 7.9 kHz for HQ mode, 300 Hz to 4.7 kHz for SP mode, and 300 Hz to 2.9 kHz for LP mode. Other features include a liquid crystal display screen, a soft case, four folders (100 messages per folder), a built-in 28-millimeter (mm) round dynamic speaker, a 3.5-mm microphone jack, and a 3.5-mm headphone jack. The "Voice Activation" function records only when the microphone senses sound. "Index Marks" allow the user to electronically mark when each file begins. "Slow Playback" plays audio 25 percent slower, and "Fast Playback" plays 50 percent faster than real time. The user can set a start and end time of a particular recording with the time recording option, and play back a pre-selected file at a specific time for reminders or wake-up calls with the "Alarm Playback" feature. OPTIONS: Soft Case (CS-125), headphones, microphones, wrist straps, neck straps, and Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery (BR401). POWER: Uses two AAA alkaline (LR03 or R03) batteries (included) or two AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries (not included). Battery life (LP mode) is 39 hours for alkaline batteries and 22 hours for Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. DIMENSIONS (HxWxD): 4 x 1.4 x 0.8 inches. WEIGHT: 2.2 ounces including batteries.
