An Overview of Evaluation for Wheelchair Seating for People Who Have Had Strokes

By Taylor, Susan Johnson; Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation, Vol. 10, No. 1, pp. 95-99
Publication Date: Spring 2003

Article evaluates the wheelchair seating prescription process for people who have had a stroke. The process for seating evaluation consists of six steps: (1) client/family interview, (2) a physical/functional evaluation, (3) a transportation and accessibility overview, (4) development of initial goals, (5) simulations with trial equipment, and (6) the development of final goals. The members of the evaluation team consist of a therapist, a rehabilitation technology supplier, the client, and the client’s family. Each step is discussed, and the author stresses that attention to detail during the evaluation can ensure a successful outcome.
