“A Thousand Points of Light” No Longer a Metaphor: Ambitious Plan to Give Sight to the Blind

By AT Journal, Vol. 58, No. 1
Publication Date: October 2002

Article discussing a project conducted to use electrodes positioned on the retinas of people blinded by diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. The project involves utilizing a tiny camera and a radio-frequency transmitter lodged in the frame of a client’s glasses to transmit information and power to modules placed within the eyeball. The modules will be linked to retinal nerves that will send electrical impulses to the brain for processing.
