Article discussing the evolution of Kurzweil Educational Systems, which is a company that develops computer products that provide access to the printed word from people who have disabilities that curtail their ability to read printed materials. The company’s flagship products are the Kuzweil 1000 and the Kurzweil 3000. The Kurzweil 1000 was designed for people with visual disabilities, and features an e-book, which allows user to go online and download electronic books. Kurzweil 3000 was designed for people with learning disabilities, and it also contains the e-book feature. The program speaks text while highlighting it, offers a variety of fonts and contrasts, and provides students with built-in aids for making notes, reviewing material, and taking tests.
