New Customizable Desktop Application Simplifies Computer Access for People with Mental Retardation

Article describing the Voyager Suite from AbleLink Technologies, which is a set of software tools designed to enhance access to computers for people with cognitive disabilities. The Voyager Suite works in conjunction with the Windows desktop to provide a simplified, uncluttered screen that can be customized for each individual, using a single computer to suit each person’s individual needs. Each user can select their personalized desktop by clicking on a large button that contains his or her name or picture. Voyager then displays the individual’s personal desktop, which includes large picture buttons that help the user remember which button to click to launch each program.
