'It's More of a Production': Accomplishing Mothering Using a Mobility Device

By McKeever, Patricia; Angus, Jan; Lee-Miller, Karen; Reid, Denise; Disability And Society, Vol. 18, No. 2, pp. 179-197
Publication Date: March 2003

Study investigates the conditions and experiences of mothers who use wheelchairs and scooters for mobility in a large Canadian city. Eleven mothers of children aged six months to eighteen years described obstacles and facilitators that influenced how they cared for their children and homes. Interviews suggest that women felt “out of place” as mothers, considering the perceived relationship between mothering and mobility devices.
