WATI Tools for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
By Reed, Penny; ConnSENSE Bulletin, Vol. 4, No. 3Publication Date: August 2002
Article describes the Assistive Technology (AT) Tool and Strategies Assessment Manual for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which was developed by the Wisconsin AT Initiative (WATI). The assessment tool includes the Student Information Guide, the Environmental Observation Guide, and the AT Planning Guide, all of which are included in the original WATI AT Assessment. The content is focused on aspects that are critical when trying to determine what might work for a student with ASD. For example, the Student Information Guide includes a focus on how the student responds to sensory stimuli, while the Environmental Observation Guide helps the team to focus on specific aspects of the environment, such as the amount of auditory and visual stimulation that is present.
