Changing With the Times: Managing Low-Frequency Hearing Loss

By Kuk, Francis, PhD; Keenan, Denise, MA; Ludvigsen, Carl, MS; Hearing Review, Vol. 10, No. 12, pp. 32-37, 52
Publication Date: November 2003

Article examines the issues involved in fitting reverse-slope hearing aids, and addresses the issue of using paired comparisons during the hearing aid fitting process. Current trends are discussed in terms of managing a low frequency hearing loss, which support the use of broadband amplification with multichannel WDRC hearing aids rather than low-pass filtering. The authors contend that digital multichannel nonlinear hearing aids offer greater flexibility of adjustment and increased accuracy. This development can allow clinicians to experience enhanced success in managing hearing loss.
