Organize Your Life: A Review of Voice Mate
By Kendrick, Deborah; Leventhal, Jay; Access World, Vol. 2, No. 6Publication Date: November 2001
Article describes the Voice Mate, which is a pocket-sized personal digital assistant with digital speech output and voice recognition and a numeric keypad for input. Distinguishing features include a phone book, a clock, an alarm, a calculator, an appointment book, and a memo mode that allows the user to record short messages. The device measures 5.4 by 2.7 by 0.6 inches, and weighs 5.3 ounces with four AAA batteries. Across the top on the front of the unit is a 1-inch-high visual display. The authors contend that the Voice Mate is a versatile device in an aesthetically pleasing handheld package. The voice is a clear, female on whose mid-level volume setting is adequate for most surroundings. Battery life endures from between four to eights weeks, and if the batteries do fail, the only serious loss of memory is the current date and time setting. If the user is only interested in storing phone numbers and keeping appointments organized, the Voice Mate is highly recommended.
