Exploring the Universe by Touch

Article describes Braille astronomy materials for children who are blind or have low vision, including: (1) Touch the Stars II, and (2) Touch the Universe, both by Noreen Grice. Touch the Stars II contains a tactile image of the Big Dipper, with an explanation in Braille and large print of how it can be used to find the North Star. The book also contains tactile images of other constellations and some of the legends that surround them. Touch the Universe contains tactile pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Text in Braille and large print help to chronicle the stages in the life cycle of stars.
