Hearing Aid Fittings and the Use of Simulated Sound Environments

By Kuk, Francis, PhD; Bulow, Maja, MA; Damsgaard, Anne, MS; Jessen, Anders; Ludvigsen, Carl, MS; Hearing Review, Vol. 11, No. 9, pp. 42-49
Publication Date: August 2004

Article on the use of simulated sound environments for testing hearing aids in various listening situations as part of the fitting process. The article first discusses challenges involved in the selection, initial callibration, and playback of sound samples. It then discusses applications of simulated sound environments in fitting and user training. The authors contend that simulated sound environments are underused, and have the potential to have a positive impact in professional practice by enhancing the success of hearing aid fittings, and increasing satisfaction rates among people who use hearing aids.
