Assistive Technology Act of 2004 Continues Support of State AT Programs

Article discusses the Assistive Technology (AT) Act of 2004, which was signed into effect on October 25, 2004. Every state and United States territory has an AT Act program, all of which are designed to ensure direct access to assistive technology loan programs, device demonstration programs, device reutilization programs, and alternative financing programs. Assistive Technology Act programs are also responsible for the implementation of training and technical assistance, with special emphasis on assistance for people with disabilities who are making the transition from school to work or continued education. Public awareness activities, information and referral services, and collaboration with organizations that are responsible for programs, services, policies, and funding of AT services are also mandated through the AT Act of 2004.
