By Appliance Design Magazine,
Publication Date: May 2003

Article discusses the LidsOff Automatic Jar Opener from Applica Consumer Products and Black & Decker, which was designed to make it easy for people with arthritis and other strength-related disabilities to open jars. The LidsOff Automatic Jar Opener was designed with a large ergonomic handle, and the device adjusts to the diameter and height of the jar lid for unscrewing, which is accomplished at the touch of a button. Additional features include convenient cord storage and a compact design. Applica Consumer Products designed the device with special assistance from the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technology Transfer at the University of Buffalo through sponsorship from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the United States Department of Education.
