The Application of ABA to Technology: The Discrete Trial Trainer
By Ashton, Tamarah M.; Journal of Special Education Technology, Vol. 16, No. 1, pp. 41-42Publication Date: Winter 2001
Article discusses the Discrete Trial (DT) Trainer from Accelerations Educational Software, which is a software tool and behavioral teaching module created for students with autism and other learning disabilities that breaks learning down into small, simple steps, providing the student with a higher chance of success. The DT Trainer programs cover three functions: (1) labels, (2) sounds, and (3) questions. The labels function involves the facilitation of matching simple object labels to functional information associated with images, while the sounds section involves the association of sounds and pictures of items. The questions section asks students how an item and a function are associated. An individualized profile is created for each user, as options include the use of a mouse or touch screen as well as session length. The program can also provide parents and teachers with weekly progress reports.
