First Keys to Literacy v2

By Dyslexic.com,
Publication Date: April 2005

Article discusses First Keys to Literacy Version 2 from Widgit Software, which is a software package for preschool students designed to improve spelling and word recognition skills, as well as keyboard awareness. The location of keys is taught by developing associations between letters, pictures, and speech via use of a manual keyboard or a mouse with an onscreen keyboard. Fonts, character size, sound effects, and speech settings are customizable, while the user can create his or her own word and picture lists. Activity reports can be printed for each completed exercise. Recommendations for appropriate operating systems and hardware components are provided.
