Publication Date: Fall 2005
Study in which a national survey of pediatric powered wheelchair providers was conducted in order to collect background data on professionals, and to develop a model of their current assessment and recommendation practices. Data collected included: (1) provider demographics, (2) frequency of pediatric powered wheelchair prescription, (3) reasons for non-recommendation, (4) reasons why children do not receive prescribed powered wheelchairs, (5) current pediatric powered wheelchair assessment and recommendation practices, and (6) data regarding the validity of these practices and the impact of powered wheelchairs on children. A total of 140 surveys were received from providers in 46 states. Results are presented in table format, while implications for the use of a modified version of the survey model are discussed.
