Article provides an introduction to the special Summer 2003 issue of New Directions for Teaching and Learning titled “Technology: Taking the Distance out of Learning.” The author focuses on looking at the new communication technologies, and discusses the implications of these technologies in terms of cultural differences. The issue addresses some of the implications of technologies for teaching and learning, as the author views technology as a valuable means to improve educational practice for students with a variety of different abilities.
