Blackboard & WebAIM: Building an Accessible e-Education Platform

By Brown, Reidy; Ritter, Greg; CSUN Technology and Persons With Disabilities Conference - 2002,
Publication Date: 2002

Paper discusses efforts to improve the accessibility of Blackboard’s e-Education platform, as Blackboard Software Engineering began collaborating in 2000 with Utah State University, Equal Access to Software and Information, and TLT Group in a project called Web Accessibility In Mind (WebAIM). WebAIM focuses on teaching instructors, administrators, and course designers on how to build accessible online learning environments. The recommendations yielded by WebAIM’s audit of Blackboard’s e-Education platform are detailed and discussed. This paper was presented at the 2002 California State University at Northridge Technology and Persons With Disabilities Conference.
