Using Songs I Sing at Preschool as an Assessment & Training Tool
By Meyer, Jo, MS; CSUN Technology and Persons With Disabilities Conference - 2002,Publication Date: 2002
Paper discusses Songs I Sing at Preschool from SoftTouch, which can be used as an assessment tool to tell the teachers, speech therapist, or assistive technology specialist how the student can most easily access a computer. The program features Add ‘n Touch, which allows any device to function as a keyboard or an assessment/training device. The adult can place a selection anywhere on the keyboard. For example, if the adult wants to know which parts of a keyboard a student can access, he can put the same song in several different places on the keyboard. The progr`am will then count the number of times the student selected the song in each position. Once the adult determines which positions are the most accessible, he or she can determine which songs the student likes by using those positions and placing different songs in each slot. When the instructor learns the easiest positions for the student, he or she can start training the student to reach just beyond his or her limit.
