Consumer Electronics: Crisis at the Big Box Store, Part 3

Article is the third in a three-part series that focuses on the accessibility of household appliances. In this installment, the author evaluates the accessibility of popular consumer electronic devices, including: (1) DVD players, (2) digital video recorders, (3) MP3 players, (4) satellite systems, (5) online television guides, (6) microwave ovens, and (7) thermostats. The author provides a number of shopping suggestions for these devices, as well as a list or recommended products. The Klegg M6 from Klegg USA is recommended as an accessible home theatre system, while the Denon 1710 from Denon is recommended as a DVD player. The Rio Carbon 5GB Player is recommended as an accessible MP3 Player, as is the Dell DJ Pocket MP3 Player, the RCA Lira 128 Meg Player, and the Book Port from APH. Accessible microwave ovens listed are the Panasonic Genius Sensor, the Talking Microwave Oven from Independent Living Aids, and the Whirlpool combination microwave and hood model MH3185XP.
