Captioned Telephone Service Coming to New York

By Hearing Review,
Publication Date: December 2006

Article discusses the New York Relay Captioned Telephone Service, which is a program designed to facilitate communication among people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The system was developed by UltraTec, Incorporated, and incorporates a CapTel phone. The phone works just like any traditional phone, but a built-in screen displays captions of the conversation so that the user can read the words while listening to the voice of the other party. Starting January 1, 2007, the service will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the New York Relay Captioned Telephone Service online (http://www.nyrelay.com) for further information.
