IRobot Roomba Discovery

By Baldridge, Aimes; CNET Reviews,
Publication Date: July 2004

Article reviews the Roomba Discovery and the Discovery SE, which are iRobot’s second wave of robotic vacuum cleaners. Each device is roughly one foot in diameter, and stands only three inches from the floor, which makes it easy for them to slip under furniture. Each comes with a docking station that attaches to a three-hour charger, as well as a wall mount, remote control, replacement filters, and the tools needed to clean the vacuum brushes. The vacuums also come with two Virtual Wall units, which can be set up in doorways to keep the Roomba in a particular room. The author found that both Roomba devices were effective in navigating tight spaces without getting stuck, and that it vacuumed quite well despite a lack of power. The devices were also able to focus on particularly dirty areas via a Dirt Detect sensor. The Roomba devices were also found to be safe, as the author reported no damage to property during the trials.
