Restoring Equilibrium

Article focuses on balance evaluation devices that can be used by physical therapists to assess clients who have disabilities that affect balance and cause dizziness. A number of devices are listed, including: (1) the Balance System from Biodex, which features five training modes, four protocols, visual feedback, and data storage; (2) the Good Balance Evaluator and the Good Balance 300 System from Metitur USA, which are designed for assessment and retraining; (3) the MotionMonitor from Innovative Sports Training, Incorporated, which is a real-time three-dimensional motion capture system; (4) The Equitest from NeuroCom International, Incorporated, which can be used to assess sensory disabilities, motor problems, and functional limitations; (5) The Balance Quest Computerized Dynamic Posturography from Micromedical; and (6) the Unicam Balance Trainer from Unicam, which is a portable system that offers biofeedback via a combination of lenses and lighting. Glasses or goggles are used that allow therapists to easily detect involuntary eye movements. A number of additional manufacturers that produce balance evaluators are listed.
