The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional benefit of electrical stimulation of the spinal cord as an aid to recovery after spinal cord injury. Degree of recovery was measured using electrophysiological techniques, using severe contusion of the spinal cord in cats as the experimental model. Somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) and motor evoked potentials (MEPs) were recorded before injury, and then bimonthly after contusion injury, throughout the duration of the 6-month experimental period
