By Ross M.S.E.E., M.Ed., David A. Mancil O.D., F.A.A.O., Gary L. Atlanta VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Center, Decatur, GA; Proceedings of the RESNA '94 Annual Conference, Vol. 14(Pages: 247-249) Publication Date: 1994
This paper discusses a pilot project to develop liquid crystal (LC) technology for application to a magnifying lens. This new technology would enable the user of the lens to adjust the magnifying power of the lens, rather than having it fixed once the lens is formed. The lens to be developed as a result of this project is a single lens, 4-power clip-on lens with a minimum range of six adjustments between 2.5x and 5.5x. The paper includes a statement of the need and problem, technical background, research questions, methodology, results, and a discussion of the implications.
