Automotive Alert: To Drive or Not to Drive

By Beck, Karl Florida Sales Manager, The Braun Corporation; PN: Paraplegia News,
(Pages: p. 39) Publication Date: June 1995

The article discusses risk factors for the elderly and people with progressive disabilities in continuing to drive. It focuses on issues such as unwillingness to adapt driving habits; changing driving conditions; independence; state licensing systems' lack of restriction assessment; and driver training programs. The article discusses the topic of deciding when it may be safer to give up driving. There is a list of self-assessment questions, including a question about possibly using adaptive driving equipment (e.g., larger mirrors) to make driving more comfortable and safer.
