The CCTV: A Personal Perspective

By Wales, Nathanael; Student Slate,
Publication Date: Spring/Summer 1999

The author compares the use of a CCTV and braille for reading and writing tasks, based on his experiences as a student with low vision. Starting in the third grade he used a CCTV for schoolwork. He originally used a desktop model and later used handheld models. In his senior year of high school, he learned braille, and in college he found that he could do many tasks much more efficiently braille. Braille is lighter to carry, more versatile in its uses, and can be faster than a CCTV.
